In a competitive job market, it is important that you hire the best talent. It is not an easy task, especially, when individuals feel inclined to hide certain aspects of their lives to appear like great prospects. While most of these aspects could be easy to spot for seasoned recruiters, background checks are important to know more about the applicants.
But normal background checks generally go to disorganized data from multiple sources to reveal the truth. Sorting through such a dataset which is inconsistent in nature and language could be hard. Moreover, the compliance laws are something recruiters have to keep up with in addition to carrying out other background check processes. To help tackle this problem, San Francisco-based Checkr has designed a background check solution that has technology at its core.
Checkr was founded in 2014 with the intention of helping give everybody in the market a fair chance of getting a job. Checkr’s story of goodwill and work has been recognized widely in the media by various publications including the New York Times, Wired, Inc., and The Wall Street Journal. This year, PCMag announced Checkr as the winner of its Editor’s Choice awards.
In 2019, Checkr has grown to a company that has over 400 employees in its workforce. The company raised $160 million in its most recent funding round that was closed in September. The round was led by T. Rowe Price Associates and Bond, Coatue, Accel, Y combinatory and IVP were among the participants. Checkr is valued at over $2.2 billion currently.
Earlier this year, it opened a second headquarters in Denver, Colorado keeping in mind its long-term ambitions. The company’s presence in the area could mean jobs for as many as 1,500 people in the coming times.
Diverse workplace and a bright future
Nobody can deny that ideas make a company. One of the ways a business brings in new ideas and fresh energy to a workplace is through hiring new recruits. But merely hiring people does not bring the best ideas. Diversity in the new recruits though – does.
Checkr is a company that welcomes a diverse set of perspectives. So, they welcome people from different races, genders, sexualities, age brackets, education levels, abilities and veteran status. Checkr’s office is a space where diverse perspectives could be heard and these perspectives are backed to make great decisions. If you walk into either of Checkr’s offices at San Francisco and Denver, you will see a diverse team of talented leaders, innovators, engineers, support staff, and designers from all walks of life.
One of the standout things that Checkr does is that it looks out for people whose histories were impacted by the justice system. We all know how hard it is for those with criminal records to get jobs. Background verification creates a great barrier for them to get recruited. But everyone deserves a chance. And Checkr’s Bounce Back provides tools and resources that help the applicants who are impacted by the system. It helps employers bring forth a “fair chance hiring process” into their businesses. Bounce Back mainly partners with California based organizations.
