Automating Blue Star’s Account Payables Operations
Blue Star is one of the biggest names in the Indian manufacturing market. It is the leading air conditioning and commercial refrigeration company that has a network of 32 offices, 5 manufacturing facilities and over 2,900 channel partners.
The company has seven different businesses. Each of these has a different procurement and P2P process which makes it hard to keep track of the invoices and process them. The processing was being done manually, which caused a lot of rework and errors. The company was additionally dealing with scalability challenges and its productivity was hard to measure. Hence, the company wanted to automate the entire process through RPA and workflow automation.
Datamatics was consulted to carry out this huge task of streamlining the process. The company studied and analyzed Blue Star’s accounts payables process and put in place a vendor portal for Blue Star that brought all the suppliers together. This improved interaction between Blue Star and its suppliers.
Further, Datamatics implemented TruBot, its RPA tool to automate the validation and indexing of invoices, web-based workflow system iPM tool for auto movement of invoices and TruBI (Business Intelligence tool) for data visualization.
The solutions by Datamatics had a large-scale impact as more than 7,000 vendors onboarded on to the new vendor portal. The Invoice processing time improved by 33% from 45 days to 30 days. The new vendor portal was responsible for processing 70% of the invoices and 98% requests were processed within Turn-around Time (TAT).
“We’ve been associated with Datamatics for close to about two years and this journey is around Blue Star’s digitization initiative focused on the procure-to-pay solution,” says Neeraj Basur, Group Chief Financial Officer of Blue Star. “In the true spirit of partnership, we never had a feeling that Datamatics is a vendor or a service provider. We have co-owned and had a joint accountability over this process.”
Lauded for Gender Diversity at Workplace
At the Gender Equality Summit 2020 (GES 2020), Datamatics was recognized for its innovative practices of “Women at Work.” The honor was bestowed to the company by United Nations Global Compact Network India (UN GCNI). The program was attended by over 250 delegates from various walks of life including Government, business, civil society organizations, academia, and UN systems.
Datamatics was recognized for this award due to its impressive gender diversity ratio of 40% of women employees globally. The company also has a remarkable 20% on women at senior level positions (managerial and leadership roles). But this hasn’t stopped the company from doing more in this segment as it has recently launched Datamatics Diversity Charter (DDC), an initiative to improve diversity further in the organization.
