Q. What is the purpose of establishing Growth Institute?

Growth Institute is the premier online training company for mid-market companies worldwide. Growth Institute is an ecosystem that supports business growth through the alignment of Thought Leaders, a community of business leaders who are continuous learners, and an eLearning platform that provides a safe environment to debate, learn, and implement the latest business methodologies.

Here at Growth Institute, our aim is to shorten the gaps in business education and professional development. Our dream is to help one million companies achieve their dreams of scaling big while reducing drama.

Q. How has Growth Institute changed as time passed? What has the company contributed to the industry over the years?

As a young entrepreneur, I experienced the severe pain of a successful company and then watched it collapse. That’s when I realized there were few resources for me or others in a similar position to learn the skills to scale and avoid the same mistakes I did. 

After working as a business coach for a few years, I had the idea to create an online university. I wanted to help entrepreneurs scale their companies while maintaining a high-quality life. My primary vision was to provide executives with the support and methodologies that I wished I had during my entrepreneurial journey.

I, along with Verne Harnish, got to work during a weekend trip to Barcelona in April of 2011. The idea behind the Growth Institute was set in motion, with Juan González brought in to join as head of operations. By November of the same year, we had made our first sale.

Funded by me and Verne, Juan Gonzalez began operations and coordinated the creation and marketing of online courses, leveraging Verne’s connections and his company–Gazelles.

In its early stages, the roster of courses consisted of 40 or so on-demand seminars recorded at Fortune’s Growth and Leadership Summits and three Master Business Courses (MBC). Those courses were Topgrading by Brad Smart, Victoria Medvec’s High Stakes Negotiations, and Verne’s own Scaling Up.

Topgrading was the first Master’s Business Course offered by Growth Institute in November 2011. It was taught live by a certified Topgrading trainer who led the class from a lake house in San Carlos de Bariloche, Chile. Students logged in from North America, Australia, the Middle East, and Mexico.

On June 26, 2014, Gazelle’s Growth Institute achieved accreditation through AdvancED, now known as Cognia. This global organization assesses the quality of institutions to ensure they meet the needs of every student.

In 2014, the company launched the Scaling-Up Club, a monthly membership program with unlimited access to all our seminars. The plan has undergone a few iterations since, and in June 2020, the program was relaunched as The Edge.

In 2015, Growth Institute introduced the Master of Business Dynamics (MBD) program as its flagship product. The certification consists of completing six Master Business Courses (MBC).

Towards the end of 2016, the company began rebranding away from Gazelles and forming its identity as Growth Institute.

Q. What is your strategy for innovation? And do your core values support this?
