Empowering lawyers and clients with innovative data-driven law firm 3.0 services—Mezzle

Empowering lawyers and clients with innovative data-driven law firm 3.0 services—Mezzle

Legal organizations have a well-deserved reputation for using technology and implementing business processes ineffectively at scale. The inefficiency can be traced to the nature of partner-focused business entities. In a partnership, all partners have a stake in their organizations’ business decisions every day. Individual partners often leverage their partner status to influence those decisions to benefit their work style or preferences. This makes the standardization of business rules complicated and therefore inefficient.

The standard law firm model that has been in effect for the better part of the last 20 years is becoming less viable. The way law firms operate is undergoing a subtle yet significant change, primarily driven by information. Applying advanced technology to legal work to increase efficiency and creative work by experienced professionals implements Law 3.0. Incorporating appropriate technological innovations into legal workflows will result in greater efficiency, better cost controls, and more consistent results across firms and law departments.

In today’s hypercompetitive legal marketplace, this dynamic will have to change. Mezzle is leading this change from the front. Mezzle is challenging the traditional approach to law by collaborating with clients and lawyers to deliver high-quality service, irrespective of their size and stature. Mezzle’s team of experienced lawyers strives to create value for clients through strategic support, proactive counsel, and cutting-edge technology. Mezzle is a full-service law firm with experts in each field and offices in Birmingham, Dubai, and Abu Dhabi.

The Idea of Mezzle and how it is changing how law firms operate

Mezzle was founded to change lives and create the Mezzle Lifestyle. Mezzle is different from the typical and traditional law firms currently in the market. The whole concept behind Mezzle’s model is to have a remote-based fee share model, whereby both the lawyers and the clients see the benefit. Mezzle has heavily invested in their back-office systems, so each lawyer benefits from the best IT infrastructure and admin support so they can function from anywhere in the world.

Lawyers are used to being confined to offices and working standard long hours to get the job done. In contrast, with Mezzle, lawyers can work anywhere and anytime they choose to, and most importantly, they can dictate their working day/life. The idea of being totally flexible and remote is why Mezzle is different. The fact that the lawyers keep the lion’s share of the fees is again a massive differential factor in the current legal market. Happy lawyers also mean better work and more satisfied clients. At the end of the day, it’s all a closed circle, and everything in it has cause and effect.

Mezzle is not only disrupting the way lawyers work, but also the way clients receive the services. Mezzle is revolutionary. By introducing a technology-focused and lean business model, Mezzle keeps low overheads. The firm then passes those cost savings onto clients because clients are not paying for “flashy offices” or too many support staff. Traditional lawyering systems are based on equity partners making as much money as they possibly can, which means that typically, the lawyer working on a matter will only receive 20-30% of the final bill (if that). That also means that the client will only see the partner in their initial meeting. After that, the work gets passed down, which means the client is paying the same fees as they would for one of Mezzle’s experienced lawyers for an associate doing the work. This also means that the work is likely to take longer, and the client is paying for such an individual to learn.

With Mezzle, the client contacts the lawyer they have initially engaged with. Work is more efficient as they pay for the lawyer’s experience than to train a junior lawyer at a traditional firm.

Traditional law firms often block progress by being too aggressive from a legal standpoint. In contrast, as a business, it is customary to weigh up the commercial risks with the legal ones, and Mezzle’s consultants understand that. Mezzle are there for clients every step of the way.

Innovating law firms for both—clients and lawyers

The world is constantly changing, and client needs are no exception. Whether that’s new business areas, developing sectors, creative solutions to age-old problems— Mezzle’s team likes a challenge and don’t believe in “no’s” but always tries to find solutions.

Mezzle is always looking for ways to improve and provide the best services to its clients, embracing new technology all the time and new ways of doing things, being proactive instead of reactive, and building on the Mezzle Cloud.

Mezzle cloud is a revolutionary platform that streamlines how lawyers provide services to their clients and helps create the Mezzle lifestyle by automating non-billable actions and freeing up the lawyer’s time to focus on what’s important.

Nonetheless, innovation is not limited to client services at Mezzle. People working at Mezzle are part of a team and, much more than that, a business family. Internal politics are not tolerated at Mezzle, and the lawyers that join must have both the skills and legal expertise and, more importantly, the right personality. Lawyers at Mezzle can work as a team on matters or be their own boss, or both, but the team clearly supports each other first and foremost, and all look out for one another, and after that, looks after the other rest of the world. Mezzle believes that happy lawyers mean a happy life.

Conquering the pandemic and pioneering the way forward

Without attempting to downplay the horrible situation that was the pandemic, Mezzle was fortunate enough to see the positive side of it. The firm experienced a substantial influx of business as people spent more time developing their ventures, picking up old projects, focusing more on side-hustles, etc. Many new companies entered the market and the digital space during the pandemic.

Because of the pandemic, many lawyers no longer want to go back to the traditional way of working at a traditional firm. They also realized that you didn’t have to be chained to a desk, but rather “free” to increase efficiency, but still that it was better to be a part of a strong team than a one-man-army. Mezzle was fortunate to capitalize on this growing feeling.

All things must come to an end, so will the pandemic. To that effect, Mezzle is growing from strength to strength and is recruiting good-quality lawyers across the UK and UAE, with plans to expand. The model Mezzle has created and the infrastructure it gives its lawyers are desirable, so the ultimate goal is to continue to grow in both the UK, UAE, and further afield. There are already talks to open offices in 2 different locations in the next 12 months—a massive achievement for the firm.

The fee share or consultancy model will dominate the legal market in the future, and Mezzle has been created at just the right time to be pioneers of this. Mezzle is already challenging and changing the traditional approach to the legal sector, and it is at the forefront of making this happen.
