30 Most Valuable Companies to Watch 2019
CIO Bulletin
An organization’s infrastructure today has undergone several layers of change. For one, infrastructure is no longer limited to physical components, but largely requires Cloud support, IT and network frameworks, security, etc. Having the right system integrators and infrastructure can certainly increase the overall efficiency of the organization. And that’s exactly what MicroTech excels at delivering. With the humblest of beginnings as a kitchen-table startup in 2004, MicroTech grew into a profitable half billion-dollar company.
Today, the company’s operations extend to 40 states and support more than 100 prime contracts with civilian and defense agencies of the Federal Government and also provide IT and network support to numerous FORTUNE 500 companies around the world. All thanks to the Founder, President and Chief Executive Officer of MicroTech- Mr. Anthony (Tony) Jimenez. Serving as a highly-decorated Active Duty U.S. Army officer, Mr. Jimenez wanted to put in his experience and expertise to develop new innovations.
His company, over the past 15 years, has experienced exponential growth and has been consistently recognized by Washington Technology’s annual list of the Top 100 Government Contractors. In 2016, MicroTech was reorganized and downsized to focus on aligning with new technologies and services. Mr. Jimenez sold several large cognizable business units and in 2017, they were recertified as a Small Business (SB) by the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) as well as recertified and verified as a Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business (SDVOSB) by the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs (VA).
It’s no surprise that Mr. Jimenez has been named ‘Entrepreneur of the Year,’ ‘Small Business Person of the Year,’ ‘Executive of the Year,’ and ‘CEO of the Year’ by several national organizations over these past 15 years. Mr. Jimenez has also been named as ‘Most Influential Hispanics in the Nation’ by the Hispanic Business Magazine, ‘50 Most Influential Virginians’ by Virginia Business, ‘Veteran of the Year’ by Vetrepreneur Magazine and in 2016 Mr. Jimenez was Honored with a Heritage Award alongside Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor and reggaetón artist J. Balvin. It gets even more inspiring to hear that he has received numerous letters of appreciation and commendation from U.S. Senators, Congressmen, Governors, Government Officials, and Community Leaders – as well as letters of gratitude from two sitting U.S. Presidents.
With such a distinguished caliber, Mr. Jimenez has taken MicroTech to greater heights. The company now holds more than 20 multiple-award type contracts, with dozens of Federal, State and Local Government Agencies providing Telecommunications Services, Solutions and Integration, Cyber Security Solutions, Cloud Computing, Technology and Professional Services, Network Systems Integration, Research and Development (R&D), and Financial Services to the Public Sector, as well as commercial enterprises. It is also ISO certified along with CMMI Maturity Level 3 rated in Services & Development.
With success soaring to new heights, Mr. Jimenez is extremely proud and humbled by the contributions made by MicroTech, its diverse employee base, and its myriad business partners over those years. In fact, in those fifteen years, Mr. Jimenez has become an author, a philanthropist, and recently added “Inventor†to his resume after receiving several U.S. Patents for his Cloud Appliance technologies.
We had a talk with the man himself and there are a lot more interesting insights to know about him and his company. Here are the excerpts from the interview:
Let’s start with you. What was the motivation to start the company and how did it all come together?
After 24 years as a highly-decorated Active Duty U.S. Army officer and successfully serving in theatres of combat operations from the Middle East to Central America and Africa, I wanted to bring this broad and deep experience and expertise back home to the private sector to help benefit not only the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) and other Government entities – but also my fellow Veteran and Service - Disabled Veteran business community. I am humbled and proud of where MicroTech stands today.
MicroTech works a lot with both the Federal agencies and commercial organizations. What do you feel about the current market landscape?
Federal Government trends and directions must include, but not be limited to, a continued push toward overall information technology (IT) modernization; toward investing in stronger and more secure networks; toward addressing and leveraging disruptive technologies; and toward remaining laser-focused on the overall customer experience. Key components of these plans must include timely, high-value, secure and cost-effective Big Data, Citizen E-ID, Digital Platforms, Edge Analytics, Enterprise Agile Transformation, Next-Generation Cloud Computing, Internet of Things (IoT) and Web Scale IT.
In this market scenario, how well is MicroTech doing?
I believe that a successful company must always be ahead of their industry’s needs and requirements; trends and directions. MicroTech’s continual success is partly due to the thorough analyzation of past trends combined with a remarkable foreshadowing of future industry movements and developments. Such innovation advances include Cognitive Hyperconnected Digital Transformation, Modernizing Business Communication Platforms, Next-Generation Cloud Computing, and Solutions for the Edge that simplify Internet of Things (IoT) complexity and accelerate innovation, to name a few of the advanced innovations MicroTech is focused on. Holding more than 20 multiple-award type contracts provides Government customers with the procurement vehicles needed to acquire the revolutionary technologies and solutions offered by MicroTech.
What are the products and services you offer?
Here’s a brief list of products and services we offer: Telecommunications Services, Solutions and Integration, Cyber Security Solutions, Cloud Computing, Technology and Professional Services, Network Systems Integration, and Financial Services for the Public Sector, as well as commercial enterprises.
That’s really an interesting list. But what sets your company apart from its competitors?
MicroTech sustains a competitive advantage in its field through innovation and a forward-thinking strategy that includes ensuring we have the cutting-edge skills and capabilities before the customer needs us to have them. The foundation of that competitive advantage is a strong commitment to cultivating and developing the best professionals, equipped with the organization’s rock-solid, repeatable business process and internationally recognized Quality Management System (QMS) standards, comparable to those provided by industry leaders much larger in size and scope, and with more resources. The company’s reputation for consistent and superior performance, outstanding work, and adherence to structured quality management methodologies ensure the delivery of high-quality services, enabling the increased capability to manage larger tasks while maintaining the flexibility, budget conscious cost-savings, and rapid decision-making of a small business.
Who are some of your biggest clients? And in which vertical do you see the most traction in?
As a technology provider on the international level, MicroTech is a prime contractor of more than 100 Federal projects and holds more than 20 procurement vehicles. MicroTech has a proven track record of delivering the right solution to clients, including the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD), key U.S. Civilian agencies, and FORTUNE 500 Enterprises. Federal Government clients include the General Services Administration (GSA), Social Security Administration (SSA), U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), Department of Defense (DoD), Department of Veteran Affairs (VA), Missile Defense Agency (MDA) and the White House Communications Agency. But, it’s with the U.S. Departments of Defense (DoD), Homeland Security (DHS) and Veterans Affairs (VA) that we have the most traction.
What are the pain points of the industry addressed by MicroTech?
For today and tomorrow, it’s timely, high-value, secure and cost-effective Digital Transformation, Next-Generation Cloud Computing, Internet of Things (IoT) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) initiatives. These “pain points†are found not only in the Federal Government arena, but all State and Local Government as well as our commercial and international markets. I always remind my team that “Those who stand in place are always losing ground.â€
What does the future hold for MicroTech?
As I previously mentioned, for today – as well as tomorrow – it’s timely, high-value, secure and cost-effective 5G mobile networks that will support advanced IoT deployments, Cognitive Hyperconnected Digital Transformation, Enterprise Agile Transformation, and Next-Generation Cloud Computing which are all critical to building innovative, secure, and cost-effective next generation solutions.
