50 Best Entrepreneurs to Watch in 2022
CIO Bulletin
Digital transformation is not just a buzzword. It has become a key topic of discussion for businesses around the globe.
According to a Harvard Business Review study, approximately US$1.3 trillion was invested in digital transformation in 2020. A large percentage of this spending ends up being wasted on initiatives by companies that fail because they are not really prepared for change. Digital transformation is not just a matter of capital investment but of developing strategies, executing, and addressing the challenges and opportunities associated with it. Experience and skills related to digital transformation are now necessary for the strategic plan of almost all companies.
The two pillars of digital transformation in the industry are innovation and disruption. Companies must be attentive to the changing landscape of their industry and be sure to count on the right talent to carry out new business models and train and retain existing talent. Disruptive forces abound in today’s business environment. For these reasons, retaining the impact of such a transformation generally requires a significant restoration of mentality and behavior.
One of the best companies to assist your firm’s digital transformation is Modus Create. Modus Create builds customer-centric products, processes, and platforms to help businesses succeed in the digital economy. For over ten years, Modus Create’s global team of strategists, designers, and technologists have helped the world’s biggest brands such as Burger King, Kaplan, AARP, PBS, and Time Inc. deliver powerful digital experiences to their clients. They work in an iterative, outcome-driven way to support clients with product strategy, customer experience (CX), full-stack Agile software development, and security.
How it all began—the story behind Modus Create
“I’m going to finish my MBA, sell my company, and work there for about two years. You’re going to finish your book and continue building your brand. After that, we will go off to do awesome things.”
These words from Pat Sheridan to Jay Garcia proved prophetic. Exactly two years later, in 2011, they co-founded Modus Create.
Pat and Jay have very different personalities. One has a background in Arts, and the other is an Air Force veteran. But they have one fundamental thing in common: a love for creating things. This shared passion became part of the company’s DNA, including its very name. It continues to the Modus Create’s edge in an industry traditionally defined by everything but action—consulting.
In 2008, Pat Sheridan and Jay Garcia met through an open-source community called Sencha Forums. After their fortunate meeting, jay began working with Pat consulting for large corporations. In 2010, jay and pat split up and went away on their separate paths but kept in touch with plans to join forces eventually
The two eventually met up as predicted by Pat and, in 2011, founded Modus Create with headquarters in Reston, Virginia.
In 2022, engineers, designers, strategists, and consultants are spread across over 50 countries globally.
Opening its arms for Open Source
Modus Create’s founder’s met in an open source community for the first time. Since then, an open source-inspired ethos has been the cornerstone of the firm’s progress.
“Opens source is all about contributing to something greater than the whole. It’s not just developers. Anyone who shares their knowledge with others is someone who embodies an open-source mentality,” says Jay Garcia embodying Modus Create’s ethos of open source.
The firm exemplifies the open-source mentality with its employees embodying its underlying values. The company’s open-source roots have not been forgotten. Many of the company’s employees have been pioneers in the open-source community and have created innovations such as the Ionic-Vue integration, RoboDomo, Beep, and Capsule.
Modus Create’s active contribution to open source communities resonates with many engineers in the company. Those contributions have also allowed them to be involved with some exciting projects.
Modus of the future—the future of work through the lens of Modus Create
In 2010, the founders of Modus Create wondered what the world would look like when everyone had a smartphone.
In the next five years, phones transformed from vanity to utility devices. Modus Create was at the forefront of mobile-first experiences.
In 2015, they predicted that every business would become a digitally-enabled business. The next five years saw Modus Create lead digital transformation at some of the most significant American enterprises.
So, what does Modus Create have in store for the next ten years? What is the next big inflection point in the global economy?
“The world we are planning for is a world with a connected grid, stable power, and microprocessors in every electronic device. We will see more progress in the next 100 years than we have experienced in the last millennium,” says Pat Sheridan.
At present, 60% of the world’s 7.8 billion inhabitants use the internet. Imagine the possibility of billions more having access to high-speed 5G internet. A world where unlimited data is as accessible as air. It’s hard even to imagine the massive economic opportunities that will arise.
In a world where more technology is emerging faster, it will be tough for any company to have an optimal workforce without a partner. That is where Modus Create, a scalable and secure platform with a global reach, seeks to play a vital role.
