Phoenix Coaching & Therapy—providing a range of therapeutic and lifestyle solutions specifically tailored to the client’s individual needs

Life challenges are inevitable, and everyone can use a little extra support when facing them. One way to get it is by taking professional help. Problems shared are problems halved, and confiding in someone who knows how to manage them without having a fear of being judged is a good thing for your well-being.

In recent years, more and more people are seeing the benefits of working with life coaches for their personal growth and development and are turning to coaches for help solving their problems and making steps towards their goals.

Phoenix Coaching & Therapy offers some of the best life coaching, meditation, hypnotherapy, counseling, and mindfulness services in the UK. At Phoenix, they use a revolutionary mix of therapeutic tools and techniques combined with goal-oriented life coaching skills to provide a fully comprehensive system of self-improvement explicitly tailored to the client’s individual needs.

The following excerpts were taken from a conversation with Andrew Cowie, Founder of Phoenix Coaching & Therapy

Q. What are some of the most meaningful goals that your coaching has allowed clients to actualize?

At Phoenix, we help people with many professional, sporting, artistic and personal goals. I’ve worked with clients to boost their confidence and performance levels on the sports field, helped musicians and actors to overcome stage fright before performances, and businesspeople to improve focus, efficiency, and productivity in the workplace.

The key to success with any form of goal setting is to break goals down into baby steps where each step is so small that the client can’t fail to achieve it. This builds rapid momentum and a sense of progress, motivating and incentivizing the client to keep moving forward.

Q. How has this profession changed how you understand people and value their emotions?

Working in this field has significantly enhanced my awareness of how other people think and feel. As a trained body language specialist, I can tell as soon as a client walks through the door whether they’ve had a good or a bad week, so I know to respond appropriately. It’s also made me acutely aware of how people’s emotions directly result from their thoughts and memories.

Whenever we have a thought or a memory, it triggers an emotional response. Something as simple as hearing a particular piece of music can make someone feel happy or sad, depending on the memories associated. By training people to gain greater conscious control over their thoughts, you can desensitize them to the disturbing emotions attached to them.

Q. In what way do you help people get out of anxiety and depression?

I train clients in a wide range of tools and techniques that are highly effective in rewiring brain chemistry to lower stress levels and improve mood quickly. For example, throwing a ball backward and forwards between one hand and the other for a few minutes will massively reduce anxiety. This is because any activity which involves the use of both hands at the same time requires both brain hemispheres to be active. When the left and right brain hemispheres operate together in perfect synchronization, we access the high-performance state that sportsmen call “in the zone.” While in this state, our focus and concentration are enhanced, and stress is neutralized.

At Phoenix, we also work to identify the underlying causes of stress and depression. Often there has been some trauma in a client’s life underpinning their problem. Many people come to me because they’re disenchanted with traditional healthcare and its tendency to try to solve everything with medication. Anti-depressants serve a purpose, but often they’re just masking a problem rather than treating it. By identifying and dealing with the root cause of a person’s anxiety or low mood, you stand a much better chance of achieving lasting and measurable change.

Q. Sadly, modern life makes us live in the past or future instead of appreciating the present. How can meditation be a powerful tool?

Indeed. Most people spend much of their lives either ruminating over past mistakes or imagining hypothetical disasters which might happen tomorrow. Thoughts tend to snowball and lead us to contemplate imaginary doomsday scenarios with no foundation. Meditation can help train the mind to live in the present moment. By absorbing yourself in a particular activity, or some aspect of your surroundings like a flower or a tree, it’s possible to stop the mind from wandering and ground yourself in the now. This takes a lot of practice, but the benefits are bountiful for those prepared to put in the effort. With time and patience, you can establish a baseline state of serenity and learn to focus the mind like a laser on the here and now.

Q. A stressful life can lead to substance addiction. How can Phoenix help patients get over it?

Substance abuse almost always results from some form of stress or trauma. In such cases, the key to successful and lasting recovery is identifying and dealing with the underlying stressors. Just telling someone to stop engaging in problematic behaviors, like drinking, smoking, or drug abuse isn’t necessarily helpful if they’ve been using that behavior as a crutch to cope with traumatic memories. The underlying issue must be healed before the crutch can be taken away. Otherwise, you pile the agony of withdrawal on their existing problem.
