30 Emerging Companies to Watch 2021
CIO Bulletin
Right or wrong, a diagnosis determines everything that follows. And most of the time, healthcare providers get it right. But without a scientific framework to assess accuracy, errors are difficult to spot and nearly impossible to learn from. Covera Health was founded in 2017 by practicing physicians and data scientists to find a better way to ensure patients receive the care they need.
Covera Health is leading the way in the emerging science of quality, deploying advanced clinical analytics to aid healthcare providers and payers in a shared quest to better define, measure, and deliver the highest standard of care to patients everywhere.
The data Covera Health collects helps it match people with the most effective care from the start, improving outcomes and reducing the heavy burden of misdiagnoses on individual patients and the healthcare system at large. The company's first solution, an innovative Radiology Centers of Excellence Program, is now available to patients nationwide.
After attracting a big range of clients, Covera Health had its series C round this year. The New York-based startup raised $25 million in a series C funding round led by private equity firm Insight Partners, which led a previous investment in the company last year.
“An accurate radiology diagnosis is an essential ingredient in effective downstream medical care across domains as varied as heart disease, cancer, chronic pain, and musculoskeletal disorders,” Insight Partners Managing Director Lonne Jaffe said in a news release. “We’re excited to continue this journey with Covera as they harness their powerful artificial intelligence platform to transform how healthcare is measured and delivered, with the potential to benefit hundreds of millions of patients across the globe.”
Partnership with HealthHelp
HealthHelp, a WNS company and leading specialty benefits management company independent of health plan ownership, and Covera Health, an industry leader in healthcare quality analytics, today announced a new strategic partnership. The agreement will extend the value of HealthHelp’s Diagnostic Imaging program through the integration of Covera’s national Centers of Excellence (CoE) program, increasing access to high-quality radiological care and improved outcomes for health plan members.
“We’re incredibly excited by this partnership, which allows us to substantially expand the reach of our CoE program to HealthHelp’s member lives, elevating the impact we’re able to have on care quality and outcomes across the nation,” said Ron Vianu, CEO of Covera Health. “The ability to deploy our CoE solution through HealthHelp’s Diagnostic Imaging program is critical to our mission of working closely with all key stakeholders in the healthcare ecosystem to drive better patient care at scale.”
Covera Health’s CoE program identifies high-quality radiology providers in every community in the US and matches patients with those providers for their specific condition. To create a seamless experience for physicians and members, the Covera program will be directly integrated into HealthHelp’s existing referral and network workflows; no added steps will be necessary for physicians or members.
“HealthHelp was founded under the guiding principles of improving outcomes through evidence-based medicine,” said Kariena Greiten, CEO, HealthHelp. “Our Diagnostic Imaging program was launched in 1999 with the explicit goal of improving patient safety and reducing unnecessary radiation exposure by determining the most medically appropriate tests for each individual. By incorporating Covera’s CoE program, HealthHelp has added a new dimension of data-driven patient engagement that delivers superior quality and outcomes by directing patients to high-quality radiology providers in their community once the study has been approved.”
The leading healthcare quality analytics company serves providers, employers and health plans – and their millions of patients – with its quality platform. Its analytics and quality insights reduce the prevalence and impact of misdiagnoses, a leading cause of inappropriate care, poor patient outcomes and unnecessary medical expense. Covera’s first product, the Radiology Centers of Excellence program, is available across the US.

Ron Vianu, CEO and Co-founder
Ron is a serial entrepreneur and problem-solver by nature. He's spent the last 20+ years founding ventures in the healthcare, technology, and insurance sectors. Ron studied Chemistry and Philosophy at NYU.
Prior to Covera Health, Ron founded Spreemo in 2010. Under his leadership, Spreemo became the fastest growing referral management platform in the occupational medicine space, growing from six employees to a team of over 200 across offices in NYC and Dallas, and earning the company Deloitte's Fast 500 award two years in a row for the fastest growing technology businesses. Spreemo, which received venture funding from a multi-billion dollar institutional investor, successfully exited to a strategic acquirer in 2017. In his spare time (and he has little), Ron enjoys biking down the East River and running up the West Side Highway, but rarely at the same time.
