Leading the Way in EV Charging Solutions, Power Hero – Empowering Communities and Shaping a Sustainable Future

In today's rapidly evolving world, the shift towards sustainable transportation has never been more crucial. With concerns about climate change and pollution escalating, electric vehicles (EVs) have emerged as a promising solution. However, for EVs to become a mainstream choice, the presence of an efficient and accessible charging infrastructure is paramount. This is where electric vehicle charging companies, specifically those focusing on cutting-edge hardware and software solutions, step in. These companies are at the forefront of a clean energy revolution, pioneering technologies that simplify the process of charging electric vehicles. Through innovative charging stations and user-friendly applications, they are making electric vehicles a practical and convenient choice for people around the globe.

Power Hero is one such California-based clean-energy company developing advanced hardware and software to expand recharging infrastructure for electric vehicles. Besides charging EVs, the company is also an innovator in the field of reserving charging stations for various personal mobility and portable electronic devices. Users have the ability to book an "e-Port" to charge electric wheelchairs, portable rechargeable breathing equipment, e-bikes, and scooters. This service is facilitated through Power Hero's network of reservable e-Ports and an accompanying smartphone application that provides real-time information on available charging locations.

Esmond Goei, CEO of Power Hero spoke exclusively to CIO Bulletin about how his company is unlocking the full potential of the electric vehicle market and take tens of millions of combustion vehicles off the road.

Power Hero: Making Charging Easy

Power Hero’s mission is to accelerate the transition to electric vehicles (EVs) to combat climate change. “We believe that achieving the world’s goals for timely EV adoption requires ensuring every segment of the EV-driving population has access to convenient fast charging, especially the ability to charge at home. In this context, the 100 million Americans living in multi-unit residential apartment buildings must have access to personal, no-queue, fast EV charging on-site. Without this provision, apartment residents won't readily adopt EVs. They highly value convenience and are unlikely to be satisfied with public charging due to widespread issues such as vandalism, hogging, unpleasant encounters, and frequent equipment malfunctions,” says Esmond Goei.

Power Hero’s Sustainable Products: Making the World Greener, Cleaner, and Better to Live In

We believe that our most significant contribution to minimizing environmental impact is empowering others to adopt EVs into their lifestyle. We achieve this with our diverse range of products,” said Esmond Goei.

We currently have three products set to roll out in 2024 and beyond. PowerPacTM, our premier apartment charging solution; CameoTM, an ‘Airbnb®’ EV charging solution allowing home EV charger owners to connect to our cloud network and rent out their Level 2 chargers; and mPowerTM, a mobile charging station that can be summoned via our smart device app, providing on-the-spot EV charging. mPower can also be dedicated to apartment buildings to offer charging to residents.

Our products are unique and address the most nagging issues of EV charging – the inconvenience of queuing to charge, uncertainty about charger availability, and the unpredictability of running out of charge. For example, PowerPac is designed for apartment residents to have fast Level 2 ‘home charging’ on-premises, addressing the current lack of charging options in most apartment buildings. Our PowerNet cloud system tracks all chargers on our network, ensuring their availability and operability. Cameo enables homeowners with garages and driveways to rent out their home EV chargers, expanding the charger population in communities across North America tenfold. Lastly, our mobile charging station, mPower, solves the inconvenience of running out of battery charge on the road. These innovative solutions, tailored to real customer needs, provide pricing resilience against competitors that fail to satisfy customers and are consequently expensive for our competitors to maintain.

Power Hero's Distinctive Approach: Focusing on Innovation, Targeted Markets, and Customer-Centric Solutions

Our business model isn't reliant on consumer traffic, unlike our competitors like ChargePoint and Volta, who concentrate on installing public charging stations. Instead, our model revolves around meeting individual needs and providing a service worth paying for. Our PowerPacs become affordable when their cost is averaged over their electric vehicle's lifespan. The credibility of our innovation and technology is evident through the 167 granted patent claims, with an additional 280 pending. Our services, enabling apartment residents to have personal, queue-free charging on premises, have secured pilot trials in three California cities,” emphasizes Mr. Goei.

He further adds, “In this market cluttered with me-too offerings, we opt not to out-shout the competition. Instead, we concentrate on market sectors where we possess an advantage, specifically apartment buildings. Apartment residents understand the constraints imposed by building owners on their electrical infrastructure, limiting their ability to support fast EV charging, let alone slow 110V charging. Power Hero not only enables the use of existing low power infrastructure to charge many more EVs we even enable fast Level 2 charging. Therefore, our market resonates with our social media messaging. Additionally, we actively fund-raise on the Netcapital crowdfunding platform, where subscribers serve not only as prospective investors but also as potential customers.

We firmly believe that our solutions are significantly more cost-effective for our customers and stakeholders, such as building owners, as we harness existing 110V-120V electrical infrastructures to facilitate fast 240V Level 2 EV charging. Our competitive position is further reinforced by the 167 granted patent claims and a reservoir of 280 pending claims.

Road Ahead

It has been determined that over 80% of EV charging occurs at home, reflecting the need to provide apartment residents the ability to charge on-premises. Without this convenience, apartment residents may resist adopting EVs, as they are unlikely to use public charging stations which are also expensive. “Power Hero makes fast EV charging ‘at home’ possible for apartment residents. If this segment of society does not adopt EVs, our efforts to eliminate carbon emissions on our roads will be in vain.

Years before artificial intelligence (AI) became a popular social media topic, we at Power Hero were filing and obtaining patents that incorporate the use of AI. This demonstrates our forward-thinking mindset and innovation. Our future products will integrate AI and other innovations such as coordinated vehicle-to-grid power backup and universal charge point registration. PowerPac will evolve to provide greater charging capacity, and we will introduce variations of our mPower mobile charging solutions.

The world is committed to reversing climate change, and we have the products to lead this reversal. We invite our readers to support our mission to provide convenient EV charging for all. Invest in Power Hero and be part of the solution,” concludes Esmond Goei.
