PUR – Leading the Charge for Global Environmental Sustainability through Innovative, Nature-Based Solutions

In the face of rising climate challenges, the need for sustainable solutions has never been greater. PUR, a pioneer in insetting and nature-based solutions, stands at the forefront of environmental sustainability, delivering innovative and impactful projects that regenerate ecosystems, protect vital resources, and promote socio-economic benefits worldwide. Since its inception in 2008, PUR has leveraged the power of nature to support local communities and global industries, empowering them to take meaningful action against climate change.

Founded in 2008, PUR quickly established itself as a global leader in nature-based solutions. The company’s mission is clear: to develop and implement projects that regenerate landscapes, preserve ecosystems, and reduce the environmental footprint of companies. By focusing on long-term, community-driven environmental projects, PUR works tirelessly to address the dual challenges of climate change and biodiversity loss.

PUR’s Core Business: Nature-Based Solutions for a Greener Tomorrow

PUR’s core mission revolves around designing and implementing nature-based solutions (NBS) that help businesses reduce their environmental impact while enhancing the resilience of local communities to climate change. These solutions range from agroforestry and regenerative agriculture to reforestation and forest conservation. Through these projects, PUR helps companies reduce their carbon footprints and increase the resilience of their supply chains, all while fostering positive environmental outcomes.

By integrating sustainability into their clients' value chains, PUR helps companies not only achieve emission reductions but also create long-term socio-environmental benefits. The company's dedication to high-quality, science-based initiatives has positioned them as a trusted partner for organizations aiming to meet their sustainability goals.

Carbon Market Leadership and Insetting

One of the most innovative aspects of PUR’s approach to environmental sustainability is its focus on "insetting." Unlike traditional carbon offsetting, which involves investing in external projects, insetting allows companies to reduce their carbon footprints by removing carbon within their own supply chains. PUR’s insetting projects create carbon assets that directly contribute to their clients' emission reduction targets, helping them align with the Paris Agreement and meet Scope 3 emissions targets.

PUR also works on "Net Zero contribution" projects, which focus on carbon sequestration outside of a client’s supply chain, such as farmland reforestation. These projects produce carbon assets that companies can purchase to supplement their Net Zero strategies. By blending both insetting and Net Zero contributions, PUR offers a comprehensive approach to carbon management and sustainability.

Sustainability in Action: Impact on Ecosystems and Communities

PUR’s environmental projects span over 400,000 hectares in 30 countries, making a significant global impact. Through a diverse range of initiatives, including agroforestry, regenerative agriculture, and coastal conservation, PUR actively works to restore ecosystems, protect biodiversity, and improve the livelihoods of local communities. By integrating agroforestry models—planting complementary species such as shade trees and fruit trees—PUR promotes soil regeneration and the use of sustainable agricultural practices.

For PUR, the true power of these projects lies in their ability to support both the environment and the people who rely on it. A critical part of PUR’s success is its focus on community involvement. Working closely with local farmers and cooperatives, PUR ensures that the projects are designed and implemented in a way that benefits the entire community. For example, their pioneering Jubilación Segura project engages local cooperatives to work with farmers, providing trees adapted to local environments, offering training, and monitoring the survival rates of the plants. In turn, farmers receive incentives such as payment based on the success of their trees, allowing them to harvest and monetize the plants.

Through these collaborative efforts, PUR supports more than 60,000 farmers and has planted over 33 million trees. This community-centered approach has proven to be one of the most effective ways to generate long-lasting environmental and socio-economic benefits.

Commitment to Transparency and Accountability

As a certified B Corp since 2016, PUR holds itself to the highest standards of social and environmental responsibility. The company is deeply committed to maintaining transparency and accountability across all its operations, ensuring that its projects adhere to the best international standards. PUR’s projects undergo rigorous audits by recognized certifying organizations, ensuring that they meet the highest quality and verification standards available in the carbon market.

PUR’s focus on transparency extends beyond its certifications. The company uses advanced software tools and data collection methods to monitor the progress of its projects, providing measurable insights to clients, farmers, and local communities. These tools help ensure that each project is achieving its intended impact on the environment and the communities involved.

A Lasting Legacy of Environmental Stewardship

As the world continues to confront the challenges of climate change and environmental degradation, the role of companies like PUR becomes even more critical. Through its dedication to nature-based solutions, PUR is helping to rebuild the planet one project at a time. With a strong foundation in community involvement, transparency, and innovation, PUR is leading the way toward a more sustainable and resilient future for all.

By focusing on regenerative practices and environmental restoration, PUR continues to set the standard for what it means to be a true leader in environmental sustainability. The company’s commitment to working with nature, rather than against it, will ensure that the projects it supports will continue to flourish for years to come.

Meet the Visionary Leader Upfront

Alexandre Schouler is the Managing Director and CEO of PUR. His role is to lead the global team with the aim to scale the operations and increase the overall impacts of our projects. Before PUR, he spent 15 years working in international companies with a strong focus on agricultural and environmental change. In his previous role, Alexandre was notably CFO of Cordier by InVivo — a sustainable wine and spirits company in France.

"At PUR, we believe in the power of nature to restore and regenerate. Through collaboration, science, and community involvement, we help companies and local farmers thrive while making a lasting impact on the planet."
