RaSpect Intelligence Inspection: Integrating Professional Inspection Experiences Globally

“Great team needs great trust to build a great product.

It’s the age of Artificial Intelligence and machines that can learn. The hurtling train of technological advancements has been catering to mankind’s ever-increasing needs. As industries expand globally, inspection of infrastructure, workplace, transportation etc. have become the need of the hour. When we imbibe technology for inspection, it further helps to achieve accuracy. However, even today, there are many instances where inspections are done manually.

Here is one of the fast-growing companies in Hong Kong: RaSpect Intelligence Inspection that uses technology to the maximum in the Inspection industry. Founded in 2017, RaSpect is bringing out innovative solutions to the Inspection industry. The company integrates Artificial Intelligence and massive amounts of Big Data for Inspection and creates a unique service globally.

Telling us more about RaSpect is Harris Sun, the CEO and Founder of the company.

You’ve selected Big Data, Artificial Intelligence, and Inspection as your niche vertical. Tell us about how the company was set up.

Previously having worked for an airline company, where the aircraft inspection project was done using 3D camera, the experience was an eye-opener that most of the inspections are done manually and visually. This method clearly resulted in low-efficiency and high-cost. After doing many types of research, it was evident that there are also huge demands in the inspection industry and it can be applied to different verticals. This was what inspired to create RaSpect and we started off with the building and infrastructure industry. As buildings in Hong Kong are dense and aging, there are tons of inspection works which take a long time to process. With architect consultants providing expertise, it enhanced the competitiveness of RaSpect.

Tell us about your products and services.

RaSpect is an AI-driven autonomous inspection software platform, which has built a ground-breaking AI-driven inspection analytics software that utilizes autonomous robots and state-of-the-art sensing technology. We provide exceptional inspection analytics when it comes to architecture and infrastructure inspection and surveying. Based on conditional factors like the weather, environment, architecture conditions and also the human factors, RaSpect AI platform can sort out potential correlations of the causes and problems of building and architecture. We can quantitatively predict the happening of defects and prioritize the severity level. We can save more than 50% of the time and cost involved, along with much higher accuracy and safety. Our inspection technology can be extended to rail inspection and aircraft inspection. Our social mission is to create a safer and smarter society via inspection robotics and AI technology.

A firm with such high caliber, there must have been challenges you faced in your initial years. Tell us about the obstacles you faced.

One of the tough challenges we face is to change the public perception on building inspection, as currently, building inspections are mostly done manually and by vision and experience. This is why people doubt the capability of a machine in its accuracy and ability. Our team has to put many efforts on educating and showing the people how we are capable for the data capture and data analytics, persuading them how our technique can solve their problems and save their money.

If you have to list four factors that have been/are the biggest asset to your organization, what would they be and why?

Employees are the first important factor, as a company cannot progress without them. We have a “F.I.T” model, which stands for “Fun, Innovation and Trust”. ‘Fun’ is the catalyst for our company and we enjoy, share and have fun with each other. We need the Fun chemistry to keep happening in RaSpect. ‘Innovation’ is the engine of the company. People with innovated ideas let us stand out from the crowd and that is how we can survive in the changing society. ‘Trust’ is the basis for all kinds of relationship. As mentioned above, the most valuable asset of RaSpect is people. We believe that “Great team needs great trust to build a great product.

How do you and your company contribute to the global IT platform and society at large?

We believe RaSpect will change the typical inspection industry’s behavior once our service is officially launched in the market.  RaSpect is an amalgamation of machine learning algorithm, data analytics and data capture. Our platform can speed up the inspection process and dramatically cut the cost for our clients. Any typical IT industry company may develop a software to solve the user’s problem based on their requirement. Or, the present competitors may solely capture the data for the clients, completely leaving out data analytics. However, data is the most valuable asset to us. The more data we collect, the more precise and accurate results we deliver.
