Resecurity: Empowering Organizations to reimagine Cybersecurity

Cyberattacks are very common these days. Recent reports show that hackers attack a computer every 39 seconds in the US. Cyberattacks can happen on a global scale as well, with hackers breaching enterprises, government organizations, and many others. Brands can be attacked for data abuse, reputational risks, copyright infringement, and intellectual property violation. Today, companies use digital services, both internally and for product and services. So it becomes essential to safeguard data and the company's assets.

Although there are basic cybersecurity measures, most of the hacks use the latest spyware and bugs, which the most common antivirus programs are incapable of. Resecurity is an American cybersecurity company with headquarters in Los Angeles, California that provides next-generation endpoint protection and intelligence-driven cybersecurity solutions to leading Fortune 500 corporations and governments worldwide. We interviewed Gene Yoo, the CEO of Resecurity, to learn more about the company and its services. Here are a few excerpts of the same:

Q. What is the reason behind establishing Resecurity? And what motivated you to reinvent cybersecurity?

When we started Resecurity, there was so much noise about solutions that weren't really solving business missions but rather point problems. And there were some solutions that were so perfect but required time, resources, and money to work properly. The bottom line is that security teams are significantly understaffed, and many deployments or coverage were not complete.

We wanted to focus on developing a solution that protects the entire enterprise ecosystems and far beyond the walls of the organization to bring what's happening outside. We simply wanted to be an army of drones that acquire quality tailored intelligence for our customers. Intelligence is about data from human intelligence gathering, curated, and tailored to each of our customers. This is where we differentiate ourselves from everyone else.

Instead of trying to find a solution to a problem, we reinvented cyber security through data science, meaning building solutions based on data and combined with AI/ML for continuous enrichment. Of course, the key is to ensure that we have a fresh set of data, not some commodity or open-source datasets.

Q. Can you take us through the company's journey right from its beginning to the point where it unwaveringly stands today?

It was a humble beginning in building a business from the ground up. We started in 2016 by building out the endpoint solution first. But little did we knew that this would take us on a 5-year journey. While building out the endpoint, we needed to build a revenue stream, which is obvious. So while the endpoint product was being developed, we paralleled our efforts to build a workbench for cyber threat intelligence operators called Context™. It is a Military-grade intelligence workbench using all sources, meaning quality, and tailored to each of our customers.

Context™ is built for an extensive security operation, and we also wanted to build and deliver a solution for small and mid-size organizations. It took us about three months to develop Risk™ — A Digital Risk Monitoring Platform. It is powered by Context™ and gives a clear picture of actual threats against your organization.

In 2019, we came out of stealth and were introduced to the world. You can say we were unknown at the time, but today, everyone recognizes that if you want to go deep versus wide, they know who they can turn to for providing the best quality intelligence globally.

Tell us about your full range of services.

We provide many of the traditional cyber-related services like consulting, red team, etc., but our real strength from a services standpoint is in our research and development as well as breach-related services. We have a large research and development unit called Hunter™ Unit. This is the unit of Resecurity that focuses on complex research engagement related to zero-day intelligence, cyber espionage, insider threat, and asset development.

Q. 'We invest in Big Data, Artificial Intelligence, and Data Science. These bring unique value in complex investigations of cybercrimes, APT campaigns, and threat actors.' Splendid. Would you like to talk about this a bit more?

We invest in data science, artificial intelligence, and big data. It's one thing to consume the data, but you need to transform the information into a meaningful and actionable, which requires a constant refresh of data. When you look at cybercrimes, APT, threat actors, etc., you need to be able to retrospect intelligence from the past as well as active engagement with a chain of assets to connect the dots. This requires a combination of data and human analysts to complete the picture.

Q. What makes Resecurity unique in the modern cybersecurity space?

We are a data-driven cyber security company and provide comprehensive ecosystem protection from endpoint to what's happening beyond the castle.

Q. How does Resecurity foster an entrepreneurial and growth-focused environment for its team members?

You can say every member of our organization has a say in everything that goes on. Resecurity is built by operators and run by operators. We know what each of us does and what is essential at hand from product to delivery. We rely on each other in all aspects because Resecurity is not built on an individual but a team.

"At Resecurity, we provide intelligence, risk management, and security capabilities. Our mission is to enable enterprises, national security, and law enforcement agencies to combat cyber threats regardless of how sophisticated they are."

Q. In what industries are your clients? Can you provide us with one or two success stories describing the challenges your clients faced and how your solutions helped them overcome those challenges?

We have clients at the top of their industries which also gives us a unique challenge to partner and build solutions to their needs, which in turn trickles down to the rest of our client base. The immediate use case I can think of is related to third-party risk or supply chain. With the onset of recent events related to critical infrastructure and supply chain, our clients needed a simple way to visualize all their tier 1 supply chains from a digital risk perspective. Utilizing Resecurity's Risk™, we captured all of their tier 1 suppliers and provided a simple view to determine if a) they are breached or; b) about to be breached and; c) how much impact this is to our clients.

Third-party risk management or supply chain management needs to evolve immediately. Organizations need to have a clear picture of their supply chain. Not about some score but need to clearly validate that yes or no and reduce risk to themselves.

Q. How do you empower your employees to grow? Tell us about the company's work culture.

In all honesty, we really don't have titles. We know functionally what each other does and how that contributes to the overall operations. We pick up where each other left off or improve, modernize, and develop. I don't remember a time since the beginning about actual roles and meaning, but we are all doing a mission outlined to the company's objective. I think keeping at this level of simplicity provides everyone to be a single unit versus an island.

Q. Will Resecurity be expanding, bringing on any new products or services that we should be aware of?

We have around 11 or so lab projects that are actively being worked upon for our clients. These could be a product, but right now, we spend most of our time customizing solutions beyond what we do. But we are releasing our endpoint solution in the coming months. We've spent over a year testing the solution with our customer base globally before introducing it to the public.

Q. What is the next step for the company as it continues to grow?

We have been calibrating continuously from an operations standpoint, meaning from an organizational standpoint, being able to support continued growth for the next 5+ years. What we will be focusing on in 2021-2022 will be building out our sales team.
