SAF+ International Group (SAF+) stands at the forefront of the global transition to clean aviation energy. As a Canadian powerhouse in the sector, SAF+ is redefining aviation fuel with its groundbreaking technology, offering a commercially viable solution for the decarbonization of the aviation industry. With an unwavering commitment to sustainability, SAF+ is driving innovation through its production of synthetic electro-sustainable aviation fuel (e-SAF), aimed at transforming the future of aviation while combating climate change.
A Vision Born from Urgency: Revolutionizing Aviation Fuel
In the wake of the climate crisis, SAF+ International Group was founded by a team of visionary thinkers, environmental scientists, engineers, and business leaders dedicated to addressing the urgent need for sustainable aviation fuels. This diverse group united with a common goal: to revolutionize the aviation fuel industry. Their collective expertise and innovative spirit have culminated in the development of e-SAF—a solution designed to significantly reduce the carbon footprint of aviation and spearhead a new era of sustainable energy.
SAF+ International Group envisions a world where aviation is no longer a major contributor to greenhouse gas emissions. Their mission is clear: to pioneer the transition to sustainable aviation by achieving net-zero emissions by 2050. Through a global portfolio of infrastructure projects, SAF+ aims to deliver e-SAF worldwide, contributing to the aviation sector’s decarbonization goals while efficiently capturing and utilizing CO2 emissions from industrial processes.
SAF+ is committed to developing a comprehensive global network of e-SAF production facilities. Their mission extends beyond just aviation; they seek to provide an effective decarbonization solution for major industrial emitters by capturing CO2 and integrating it into the e-SAF production process. This dual focus on aviation and industrial emissions positions SAF+ as a pivotal player in the global sustainability landscape.
Core Values: Driving Force Behind SAF+
At the heart of SAF+ International Group are core values that underpin their operations and strategic direction:
E-SAF: A Game-Changer for Carbon Reduction
Leading the Industry
SAF+ International Group is at the helm of the clean aviation energy revolution, with their Electro-Sustainable Aviation Fuel (e-SAF) poised to make a significant impact. This innovative fuel offers a remarkable 90%+ reduction in carbon footprint compared to conventional jet fuel. By recycling CO2 from industrial waste, SAF+ not only advances aviation sustainability but also addresses broader industrial carbon emissions.
Proven Technology: Seamlessly Integrating with Existing Infrastructure
SAF+ has demonstrated the effectiveness of their technology through a successful pilot plant in Montreal. Their e-SAF is a drop-in fuel, meaning it integrates seamlessly with existing aviation infrastructure, eliminating the need for new systems. This compatibility ensures that the transition to sustainable aviation is both practical and efficient.
Economic and Environmental Benefits
The benefits of SAF+’s e-SAF extend beyond environmental impact. Local production of e-SAF fosters regional development by creating high-quality jobs and enhancing fuel security. The reduction of CO2 emissions also aligns with global carbon reduction targets, reinforcing SAF+’s role as a leader in the sustainable energy sector.
Driving Towards Net-Zero
With growing commitments from airlines and governments to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050, e-SAF represents a crucial step in meeting these ambitious goals. Its immediate availability and commercial readiness position it as a key player in the decarbonization of aviation.
While hydrogen and battery-powered alternatives remain impractical for medium- and long-haul flights in the near term, e-SAF offers a viable solution. Its proven technology and ability to significantly reduce carbon emissions make it an essential component of the aviation industry's sustainability strategy.
David Gitman, Executive Director at Monarch Air Group, highlights the significance of SAF+ International Group’s work: “SAF+ International Group’s innovative approach to clean aviation energy is not just a technological advancement but a necessary leap towards a sustainable future. Their commitment to reducing carbon emissions is setting a new standard in the industry.”
Commercial Plant Expansion
SAF+ International Group is making strides in scaling their operations with plans to develop commercial e-SAF production plants worldwide. With an annual production capacity of over 90 million liters of e-SAF, each facility will play a crucial role in recycling CO2 and advancing global sustainability goals. The first plant is projected to be operational by 2030, marking a significant milestone in SAF+’s journey.
