SHIFT HR Compliance Training – Pioneering the Future of Workplace Culture with Innovative, Compliance-Driven eLearning Solutions that Foster Inclusivity, Safety, and Employee Well-being across Organizations

Creating a workplace that is safe, inclusive, and fully compliant is essential in today’s ever-evolving professional landscape. Ensuring employees feel valued, respected, and supported while meeting the complex demands of regulatory requirements is no easy feat. SHIFT HR Compliance Training rises to this challenge, offering innovative and engaging online training solutions designed to transform workplace culture.

SHIFT HR Compliance Training stands at the forefront of workplace education, specializing in HR compliance training, particularly in preventing workplace harassment and discrimination. Recognizing the complexities of meeting diverse legal requirements across various jurisdictions, SHIFT has developed a range of customizable training solutions that cater to organizations of all sizes. From Fortune 500 companies to small businesses, SHIFT empowers its clients to navigate compliance mandates with ease, fostering environments where employees thrive.

At CIO Bulletin, we had the privilege of interviewing Katherin Nukk-Freeman, one of the co-founders and the President of SHIFT HR Compliance Training. In our conversation, Katherin shared valuable insights on how her company is transforming workplaces with customized training solutions, helping businesses stay ahead by creating environments that prioritize safety, respect, and inclusivity.

Interview Highlights

Can you share the story behind the founding of SHIFT HR Compliance Training? What inspired the creation of the company and its mission to improve workplace culture?

After earning my law degree from Boston College, my law school roommate, Suzanne Cerra, and I went on to earn partnerships at prestigious law firms. Eventually, we both became Hiring Partners at our respective firms. Through that role, we witnessed many talented lawyers, especially women, leaving the firms or even the legal profession altogether. These departures often stemmed from working conditions that offered no work-life balance and lacked a focus on fostering a positive firm culture.

We believed there was a better way to achieve that balance—by creating a law firm with an innovative structure and a supportive culture. This led to the co-founding of Nukk-Freeman & Cerra, an employment law firm designed to address those very challenges. Within just a few years, Thomson Reuters and US News & World Report recognized NFC as a top-rated employment law firm. Today, NFC stands as the largest, management-side, woman-owned employment law firm on the East Coast.

Our journey didn’t stop there. Suzanne and I co-founded SHIFT HR Compliance Training to extend our mission of transforming workplaces. SHIFT empowers organizations through interactive and forward-thinking e-learning solutions that can scale across entire companies. At SHIFT, we have a mission-driven leadership, where every leader and team member is dedicated to making a positive impact on the workplaces and cultures of our clients.

SHIFT offers a range of courses tailored to HR compliance and workplace culture. Could you highlight some of the most popular courses and how they address critical issues like diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEIB)?

SHIFT offers a one-stop shop for businesses seeking expertise in Human Resources (HR) compliance and workplace culture-related training. This includes concepts addressing inclusion and belonging in the workplace through interactive and engaging eLearning. SHIFT aligns its various courses with complementary instructor-led training to provide clients with a comprehensive training program that incorporates multiple modes of communication. SHIFT’s course library covers crucial topics such as preventing harassment and discrimination, understanding unconscious bias, workplace violence, and respect and civility in the workplace. We tailor our training solutions to ensure compliance while also incorporating learner preferences effectively.

Your company is known for delivering interactive and thought-provoking eLearning solutions. How do you strike a balance between engaging content and effectively addressing serious topics like compliance, bias, and harassment?

Unlike most e-learning companies SHIFT has a niche focus on HR Compliance and Workplace Culture. Our highly relevant training scenarios are created by experienced labor and employment lawyers who specialize in HR compliance and employment law rules and regulations as well as a detailed understanding of the people and talent related issues in the workplace. As such, our courses include real life situations that learners are likely to encounter in their work lives and need guidance navigating. Our content respects the learner so that the learner in return respects our course content. I believe this allows us to achieve a balanced and valuable training solution.

SHIFT’s reputation includes working with Fortune 500 clients. What do you believe has been the key to earning the trust of such high-profile organizations, and how do you maintain those relationships over time?

SHIFT has achieved rapid growth in a very competitive market. Known for our white-glove customer service, we prioritize going above and beyond for our clients. We also employ innovative training methods, such as interactive webinars and personalized solutions, and have expanded our DEI training offerings to meet growing demand. Our multi-channel communications strategy ensures accessibility and responsiveness, while our commitment to continuous improvement keeps us earning trust from our clients. These attributes are attractive to high profile, Fortune 500 companies.

With workplace culture rapidly evolving, what trends or challenges do you foresee in the HR compliance space, and how is SHIFT preparing to innovate for the future?

The HR compliance training industry is constantly evolving to keep pace with changes in regulation, technology, workforce dynamics, and, of course, societal changes. In the future, AI will play an even more important role in our course development. As our clients’ teams continue to work on a hybrid or remote basis, courses that focus on culture-building, empathy, and other EQ-related attributes may be even more important to ensure that employees do not lose their ability to effectively communicate with their colleagues.

SHIFT will continue to expand our course library and scale our unique, engaging, and real-life approach to training to reach thousands of employees across the country and continue to impact positive change throughout the workplace. Ultimately, the goal is to change behavior and help create inclusive and safe workplaces for all employees.

What legacy do you hope SHIFT HR Compliance Training will leave in the field of workplace culture and compliance, and how do you envision the company’s role in shaping the future of HR training?

At SHIFT HR Compliance, our mission goes beyond just training; we strive to create workplaces that are better for everyone. We aim to leave a legacy where compliance isn’t just about avoiding legal risks but about fostering inclusive, empathetic, and empowered work environments. We believe that in a rapidly evolving world—especially with remote and hybrid teams—it is essential to focus on the human side of compliance: communication, empathy, and emotional intelligence. Our role is to guide organizations toward not only meeting regulatory standards but also embracing the values that truly create safer, more inclusive workplaces for all. Ultimately, we envision SHIFT playing a pivotal role in shaping HR training into a force that drives lasting change, both within individual organizations and in society as a whole.
