Interview Highlights
What inspired the creation of Simetric? Can you share the story and vision behind the founding of the company and the initial problem you aimed to solve in the IoT industry?
As the CEO and co-founder, I established Simetric in 2017 when our team recognized a critical need in the IoT and edge networking industry. We identified a lack of support and expertise in IoT cellular connectivity management, so we created a unified management pane that allows companies of all sizes to centrally manage their distributed networking devices. In 2018, we expanded our development efforts, looking more broadly at what the next phase of IoT would require to enhance carrier and enterprise orchestration. Our focus was to improve connectivity and device performance, enabling companies not only to unify non-conforming IoT platforms and ecosystems but also to streamline IoT business process execution across devices and workflows, seamlessly integrating with the abundance of operator IoT platforms.
Can you provide an overview of your core products and how they address the needs of various industries and clients?
Simetric is the leading IoT cross-carrier SaaS platform, trusted by companies globally to manage device deployments ranging from thousands to tens of millions of IoT devices. Simetric's solution orchestrates and addresses the complexity inherent in managing IoT and edge projects across a global network of carriers, networks, and service providers. This is achieved through a cloud service that integrates over 250 carrier and satellite platforms and thousands of APIs into a single, intuitive, and actionable pane of glass. Simetric's orchestration capabilities are designed to handle the intricacies of global IoT and edge networking, allowing businesses to deploy, monitor, and optimize their distributed networking assets across diverse environments effortlessly. By investing in innovation and leveraging novel, patented approaches, Simetric empowers large-scale IoT users to experience a powerful and integrated global IoT solution, enabling unparalleled visibility, control, and operational efficiency.
What are the unique features of Simetric’s IoT SaaS platform that differentiate it from other IoT management solutions in the market?
As one of the leading companies in IoT Connectivity Management Platforms, several factors differentiate Simetric from its competitors. The company offers global, instantaneous discovery and management of cellular-enabled IoT and edge devices across carrier and satellite networks. It provides a patented workflow that automates expense management for budgetary controls and bulk device actions, among other features, across networks. The API architecture of the platform extends the workflow and device attributes seamlessly into services offered by partners (e.g., ServiceNow, Cradlepoint), bringing the entire IoT and edge ecosystem into a unified workflow.
Simetric is described as “infinitely scalable.” How does your platform support businesses as they grow and expand, particularly in terms of mergers and acquisitions?
With billions of IoT devices deployed, along with edge routers, scalability is essential, but so is empowered control. We refer to this tech ecosystem as distributed networking, and what sets it apart from other networking segments is the fundamental dependency between MNOs and enterprises due to connectivity. For any customer, Simetric can bring millions of devices from around the world into a single workflow in a short timeframe. The insights gained from a unified view create efficiencies for enterprises and MNOs in managing such a diverse device landscape. From an M&A and PMI (post-merger integration) perspective, we see companies and consultancies using us not only to bring all their devices into a single control plane but also to assess areas of operational redundancy, poor asset utilization, and technical debt from that unified view. Ultimately, Simetric is deployed to redefine distributed networking management and establish lifecycle management practices.
Managing IoT devices across various carriers and standards can be challenging. How does Simetric address these discrepancies, and what benefits does this bring to your clients?
Simetric’s patented technology empowers customers to eliminate unnecessary OPEX and CAPEX expenses, enables them to invest more in deployed operations and gives companies control to migrate their devices and operations on their timetable. Ultimately, this allows enterprises to invest more in deployed operations at a lower operational cost basis and provides them with the insights and controls to define their future distributed networking needs with precision. The full lifecycle is now in their control.
Empowering clients to control their IoT management is a key aspect of your platform. Can you discuss the tools and features that enable this and how they impact client operations?
Simetric’s prescriptive and predictive analytics, enabled through the unique ability to tailor device parameters without interfering with their network dependencies, is industry-leading. Additionally, Simetric is integrated with ServiceNow, a strategic partner, which provides enterprises and government agencies with comprehensive observability and workflow, allowing them to bring IT and IoT together and understand the interdependencies of the technologies.
With the increasing concerns about data security and privacy, how does Simetric ensure the protection of sensitive IoT data across its platform?
Security is paramount with managing a platform that is so integral to business operations. Simetric focuses on addressing and enriching IoT security to protect data and devices for enterprises of all sizes. From a data perspective, all data is encrypted at rest and in motion. We then utilize Azure Key Vault to secure encryption keys. Simetric extends our fraud detection across a multi-dimensional approach that leverages the best of Azure and logging systems. Lastly, the Simetric platform does not require collecting personal customer or employee information, thus steering clear of risky PII.
What future innovations and developments can we expect from Simetric? Are there any upcoming features or products that you are particularly excited about?
Simetric has always been and will continue to be a customer and partner-driven company. It is at the core of our culture and commitment to strive for continuous improvement and operational excellence. The company will continue its active partnerships with the likes of AT&T, ServiceNow, Cradlepoint, Tata Communications, Soracom, and others to bring IoT, edge, satellite, and eSIM technologies into a seamless, unified workflow. These collaborations will provide direct benefits to every company, regardless of size, device type, and geography.
