In the heart of London's prestigious Belgravia district stands The Goring, a beacon of English sophistication and individuality. With 69 lavish rooms and suites, each meticulously adorned with the most exquisite furnishings, the hotel exudes an air of timeless elegance. As the final bastion of family-owned luxury in the city, The Goring is celebrated for its intimate ambiance and personalized service, making every guest feel truly special.

This distinguished establishment boasts an elegantly designed restaurant, renowned for its culinary delights, a world-famous afternoon tea, and an opulent bar that tempts patrons with a tantalizing array of the finest wines, spirits, and cocktails. The dining spaces, though stunning, exude a relaxed atmosphere that attracts both locals and visitors alike.

Nestled in the heart of Belgravia, The Goring is ideally situated for those seeking both spectacle and style. The district is bordered by the iconic walls of Buckingham Palace and is surrounded by the fashionable neighborhoods of Knightsbridge, Mayfair, and Sloane Street, ensuring a stay filled with unparalleled luxury and sophistication.

History of The Goring

Established in 1910 by the foresight of Otto Goring, The Goring has stood as a testament to English elegance and luxury in the heart of London. From its inception, the hotel has remained under the devoted stewardship of the Goring family, making it a unique institution in the realm of hospitality.

Otto Goring's vision transformed a plot near Buckingham Palace into the grandeur of The Goring, removing cottages and a public house to pave the way for the last grand hotel of the Edwardian era. The hotel opened its doors on March 2nd, 1910, introducing world-first amenities like en suite facilities and central heating in every bedroom.

Over the past 113 years, The Goring has witnessed historic events, serving as a refuge for the Commander of the American Expeditionary Forces during World War I and hosting crucial meetings between Winston Churchill and allied leaders in the Silver Room during World War II. It was also a residence for the Polish army in exile and welcomed dignitaries during the coronation of HM Queen Elizabeth II in 1953.

In the late 1960s, George Goring, under his father's guidance, undertook a comprehensive refurbishment, propelling the hotel to the forefront of London's finest establishments. His commitment to excellence garnered him accolades, including the title of Hotelier of the Year in 1990 and an OBE for his contributions to hotel keeping in 1991. George was also a founder and chairman of Pride of Britain Hotels, and chairman of the Master Innholders. In 2010 he was awarded the AA lifetime achievement Award.

Over A Century of Luxury Service

Today, The Goring remains a favorite address and hidden gem for anyone seeking that impeccably English luxury hotel in the heart of London.

Through four generations of the Goring family, the hotel has come to deliver some of the finest personal service in the world. This world class service is set against the elegant backdrop of the rest of the hotel. From the Linley designed Dining Room celebrating the very best of British food, to the artistry of the hand-woven Gainsborough Silks which adorn the walls so gracefully, The Goring is a wonder to behold. The inside of the hotel is beautifully enhanced by The Goring Gardens – one of the largest private gardens in the capital. The Gardens provide guests with the perfect setting to enjoy the award-winning afternoon tea and The Goring is proud to be leading the way in restoring this wonderfully English pastime to popularity once again.

With only 69 luxurious suites and rooms, The Goring is affectionately known as a “Baby Grand”. It is the finest of traditional hotels in the perfect location, but with the most intimate of atmospheres and personalized attention.

Hotel in Belgravia

Located right in the heart of residential Belgravia just behind Buckingham Palace, The Goring is a wonderful escape from the hustle and bustle of the capital which is happening just close enough. It is the perfect place for a weekend retreat and an excellent base for a family trip to London.

Impeccably English and perfectly individual, The Goring features 69 sumptuous suites and rooms, each uniquely decorated with the finest furnishings. As the last remaining family-owned luxury hotel in London, it is renowned for its warm, intimate atmosphere and personalized service.

Located in Belgravia - one of the most exclusive and elegant areas in central London - it is perfectly placed for spectacular sights and style. The iconic walls of Buckingham Palace border the district and nearby Knightsbridge, Mayfair and Sloane Street make for a fashionable stay.

Royal Warrant: Graciously granted by HM Queen Elizabeth II

The closest hotel to Buckingham Palace, The Goring has been a firm Royal favourite since it first opened its doors in 1910. The coronations of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth II saw the hotel filled with royalty from all over the world attending these great occasions. HM Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother also famously enjoyed Eggs Drumkilbo – a lobster and egg-based dish that remains one of the most popular dishes in The Dining Room.

In 1990, the late George Goring accepted an O.B.E. from the HM Queen Elizabeth II at Buckingham Palace for ‘services to the hotel industry’. This was followed by the appointment of a Royal Warrant to The Goring in 2013 - the only hotel to have been granted a Royal Warrant for hospitality services.

Royal Warrants of Appointment are a mark of recognition to those who supply goods or services to the Royal Households of The Monarch or His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales.

Jeremy Goring | CEO

Over a century has passed since Otto R. Goring opened the hotel, and with great-grandson Jeremy taking over in 2005, The Goring has proudly passed through four generations. Graduating from the Lausanne Hotel School in 1988, Jeremy worked at the Four Seasons and The Lanesborough in London, and opened hotels for Rosewood in Mexico, the Caribbean and Indonesia. In October 2012 Jeremy was named Independent Hotelier of the Year.

“At The Goring, we love to indulge our guests and make them feel at home, and after 113 years, we still continue to surprise and delight even the most frequent of guests.”
