U.S. Oral Surgery Management— enhances financial and clinical success for premier OMS practitioners

There is no better attitude to solving challenges than the famous maxim, “two heads are better than one.” Whether forming internal partnerships between colleagues or departments, or more significant partnerships between companies, harnessing the abilities and strengths of others from different corners of your ecosystem is one of the most deliberate ways for businesses to scale their innovation and solve complex challenges. In today’s fast-paced business environment, a “do-it-alone” approach is not the best strategy for growth. Businesses that grew organically need to look for new ways to drive collaborative innovation that delivers on what their customers need today—and in the future.

U.S. Oral Surgery Management (USOSM) is a specialty management services company that partners with premier maxillofacial and oral surgeons throughout the United States to offer a partnership solution for continued, accelerated practice success as the healthcare landscape becomes increasingly competitive and the regulatory complexities rise.

USOSM serves as an extension of the clinical mission of its surgeon partners by preserving clinical autonomy and focusing on patient care and exceptional patient outcomes. USOSM delivers operational, marketing and administrative support services, reinvests resources, and applies best practices to improve clinical and financial performance to produce steadier, more profitable growth for all.

In conversation with Richard J. Hall, President, and CEO of U.S. Oral Surgery Management (USOSM)

Q. Why was U.S. Oral Surgery Management (USOSM) established? How has it contributed to the industry for the best?

U.S. Oral Surgery Management (USOSM) was established in 2017 with a mission: to partner with premier oral and maxillofacial surgeons to help them enhance their clinical missions and successes— today and tomorrow. USOSM was the first company of our kind, and we continue our mission today as the largest company of our kind.

We’ve helped contribute to the industry by assisting premier oral and maxillofacial surgeons in attaining even higher levels of excellence, which benefits patients, the surgeons who treat them, and the industry. Through our sustainable partnership model, USOSM helps fuel innovation, clinical excellence, and steadier, more profitable growth for all. This is accomplished by reinvesting resources and providing shared clinical best practices and operational, marketing, and administrative support services.

Q. How is USOSM giving its best to the changing healthcare landscape?

Marketing and practice operations are united in their approach to utilizing the best data and technology to serve our partners’ patients and their referring doctors. We provide all our practices with the cumulative knowledge of our network, enabling us to stay on the leading edge of best patient and referral management practices.

Q. Talk to us about your expertise and how that has made you stand out in the crowd.

Our vision is to be the oral surgery management company most admired for its people, paradigm, partnerships, and performance, and we’re doing that. USOSM has a strong, energetic, competent, and experienced team. We have a proven and unique business model backed by private equity, which results in shared financial success for all. Our network includes over 156 exceptional partner surgeons across 21 states. We’ve grown exponentially since our inception just five years ago. We’re the largest company of our kind, and we continuously set the industry standard.

Q. What is the benefit of partnering with U.S. Oral Surgery Management?

Being an oral surgeon at the top of one’s game is only part of the equation for success. Competition is increasing, while business operations are getting more complex, making it harder for practices to survive and thrive—or even predict their future outcomes. Joining our network not only provides our partners with the scalability and security needed to outpace market uncertainty but also gives our partners growth opportunities not found elsewhere.

Additionally, they can spend more time on patient care and participate as owners in our shared-services organization. They benefit not only from their practice growth but also from the growth of other surgeons in our network, and we have the largest network of our kind nationwide. Furthermore, we help our surgeon partners to grow their practices by reinvesting resources, implementing best practices, and providing a wide variety of support services.

Q. How does USOSM help oral surgeons stay competitive?

Through efficient management of costs and budgets, we can implement consistent, high-end marketing campaigns across the communities we serve. Our operational excellence allows our surgeon partners to see more patients with greater patient satisfaction.

Q. Are you satisfied with the way you have managed both your business and people at the same time?

Based on patient feedback, our partner practices consistently receive a net promoter score (NPS) of 80 or above, which is considered world-class. This is a significant achievement, particularly when you take into account that the average NPS for the healthcare industry is 58, and the average NPS for healthcare providers is around 38. In addition, we’ve established a proven partnership model and a thriving business culture with a strong, experienced leadership team. We are a growing and dynamic company, and we plan to continue that growth.

Q. What challenges do oral surgeons face, and how does USOSM help overcome the same?

Oral surgery may be one of the most profitable dental specialties, but surgeons face new challenges from other specialties as they expand into overlapping services. USOSM helps our partners to regain revenue and improve efficiencies, so their practices can continue to compete in this rapidly changing and highly competitive market. Our partners focus on what they do best—treating patients. The USOSM team takes care of the business, from marketing strategy and execution to day-to-day billing, office management, and everything in between.
