10 Performance Excellence Awards 2021
CIO Bulletin
Distributed SQL is generating a lot of buzz lately, and for good reason. Relational databases are trusted by every company in the world to run their mission critical applications. But as the first innovators began shifting to online business and customer engagement, relational databases couldn’t keep up. NoSQL databases captured the spotlight with their ability to support modern web applications with massive workloads, but they did so by sacrificing consistency and data integrity. Distributed SQL is the best of both worlds. Distributed SQL allows you to add nodes on demand and scale out. It also eliminates the issue of having to change your shard key or modifying how the data is split. Distributed SQL continues to evolve, responding to marketplace demands for more reliable, transparent, accurate data, delivered at ever faster speeds, and at a truly global level.
Yugabyte is the company behind the open source YugabyteDB, a high-performance distributed SQL database for global, internet-scale applications. Built using a unique combination of high-performance document store, auto sharding, and share distributed consensus replication and multi-shard ACID transactions (inspired by Google Spanner), YugabyteDB serves both scale-out RDBMS and internet-scale OLTP workloads with low query latency, extreme resilience against failures and global data distribution. As a cloud native database, it can be deployed across public and private clouds as well as in Kubernetes environments with ease. The company is backed by top-tier investors including Lightspeed Venture Partners, Dell Technologies Capital, 8VC, and Wipro Ventures.
Industry-Leading Distributed SQL Solutions and Services Delivered
YugabyteDB: It uniquely combines enterprise-grade relational database capabilities with the horizontal scalability and resilience of cloud native architectures. YugabyteDB is like PostgreSQL reimagined for a cloud native world. It is Apache 2.0 licensed and runs on Kubernetes, VMs, and bare metal across private, public, and hybrid cloud environments. It is more than just wire compatible with PostgreSQL, it is code compatible. YugabyteDB achieves this by reusing PostgreSQL’s query layer to achieve a high degree of compatibility with existing PostgreSQL applications or those that can be migrated to PostgreSQL. This also means that developers can be immediately productive with the ecosystem of PostgreSQL compatible frameworks, applications, drivers, and tools. It delivers a comprehensive set of advanced RDBMS features like triggers, functions, stored procedures, strong secondary indexes, and distributed ACID transactions. This means that developers no longer need to choose between the horizontal scalability of NoSQL systems and the ACID guarantees of traditional SQL systems.
Yugabyte Platform: It gives you the simplicity and support to deliver a private database-as-a-service (DBaaS) at scale. Use Yugabyte Platform to deploy YugabyteDB across any cloud anywhere in the world with a few clicks, simplify day 2 operations through automation, and get the services needed to realize business outcomes with the database. It enables developers to spin up a database for their apps in minutes so they can focus on building applications. It offers the most comprehensive and flexible deployment options in geo-distributed environments. Operators can make use of synchronous and asynchronous data replication and geo-partitioning to achieve desired consistency, resilience, performance, and compliance objectives.
Yugabyte Cloud: It is a fully managed cloud DBaaS for YugabyteDB available on your choice of AWS, Google Cloud, and Azure. Yugabyte Cloud delivers continuous availability, scalability, and support based on powerful automation and operational best practices, allowing you to focus on building awesome applications. It leverages full power of PostgreSQL-compatible SQL and distributed ACID transactions and ensures continuous availability even when underlying compute, storage or network fails. It also manages your data alongside your Kubernetes applications across public and private clouds. It is built from the ground up with data security in mind. The database enables organizations to maintain a robust security posture with built-in controls such as LDAP authentication, role-based access control (RBAC), data encryption at rest and in transit (TLS), audit logging, and column-level permissions. You can also get advanced features such as row level security (RLS) and column-level encryption for more advanced use cases.
The Formidable Leader
Bill Cook serves as the Chief Executive Officer of Yugabyte. He brings more than 35 years of experience in enterprise software and data infrastructure, steering companies under his leadership through massive growth, from early-stage to IPO and beyond. Prior to Yugabyte, Cook served as President and co-founder of Pivotal Software, where he was part of the leadership team that helped solidify the company as the gold standard in cloud native software development and led Pivotal through its IPO and subsequent merger with VMware in 2019. Prior to Pivotal, Cook was CEO of Greenplum, where he helped grow the data analytics platform company from its startup roots through to a major acquisition by EMC in 2010.
