Spanish soccer club FC Barcelona has signed a stadium and shirt sponsorship deal with Swedish audio streaming platform Spotify, the Spanish club announced on Tuesday.
The audio streaming brand will appear on the front of the men’s and women’s team shirts for four seasons beginning in 2022/23. Also, one of the world’s most famous and iconic soccer stadiums, the Camp Nou, will be rebranded as Spotify Camp Nou as part of a sponsorship agreement.
The sponsorship deal is yet to be ratified by FC Barcelona’s Extraordinary Delegate Members Assembly in a vote on April 3rd. It likely won’t have much trouble passing, as the Spanish soccer giant is in an enormous amount of debt and sought to sell a stake in its media production division last year.
The sponsorship deal is reportedly worth $310 million. Spanish publication SPORT reported that the deal could have been worth more if the soccer club had a higher percentage of ‘registered’ fans—fans who gave the club access to emails, names, and other personal information. According to the report, only one percent of the club’s 350 million fans are registered.
The sponsorship agreement will see the club replace Rakuten as the shirt sponsor for the men’s team and Stanley for the women’s team for the next four years.
