Microsoft announces Paint 3D's removal from the Microsoft Store, marking the end of its experimental 3D editing app.

Microsoft on November 4, 2024, announced that Paint 3D would be taken down from the Microsoft Store. Paint 3D was released in 2016 with the intention of improving the original Paint application by encouraging and enabling users to create and modify 3D models. Microsoft decided to discontinue Paint 3D due to its inability to develop and create a substantial user base, even with its innovative features.

Previously in 2021, Paint 3D was no longer pre-installed on Windows installs, in spite of its initial inclusion. Even though, anybody running Windows 10 or Windows 11 could still get it for free from the Microsoft Store. Paint 3D has been replaced by Microsoft's current emphasis on the beloved Paint program, which has been updated and given new AI-powered features.

Microsoft's choice to improve the original Paint app that now has additional options for creating images and removing backgrounds—is seen in the decision to eliminate Paint 3D. Paint 3D will go up against other invalid Microsoft programs that used to come pre-installed on Windows, like Calendar and Mail.

This 3D editing experiment will come to an end on November 4th, when Paint 3D will no longer be accessible for download or support. It is advised that users switch to the latest Paint program or look into other 3D modeling software.
