Apple admits to Mac Pro design flaws with the promise of a new redesigned model

Apple has announced plans to release a redesigned version of the Mac Pro with modular design and full-size graphics cards support. Apple hadn’t updated Mac Pro since 2013, and it was criticized for neglecting the professional market of desktop users. But, the latest Mac Pro will enable Apple to update it frequently. The company says it’s aiming at building a product that could be upgraded in the future, and it won’t be released until sometime next year.

Meanwhile, Apple has reduced the price of the older 6-core version of Mac Pro which is the base model now. The $3999 model is now priced at $2999 and has an upgraded GPU and 12GB RAM. The upgraded specifications in the new model include a 3.5 GHz 6-core Intel Xeon E5 processor, Dual AMD FirePro D500 GPUs and 16GB of RAM. Both of the models will come with 256GB of flash storage and can be configured to 32GB or 64GB of RAM. Other features include four 3.0 USB ports, six thunderbolt 2 ports, dual Gigabit Ethernet, and HDMI 1.4 UltraHD ports.

Apple admitted that the current Mac Pros had design flaws and was difficult to modify for varying workloads. So, it missed a good share of its target market. But it said that it was working on improving the design. “We have a team working hard on it right now, and we want to architect it so that we can keep it fresh with regular improvements, and we’re committed to making it our highest-end, high throughput desktop system, designed for our demanding pro customers,” said Phil Schiller, the senior vice president of worldwide marketing at Apple Inc.
