The smartphone sales during the holiday season of 2017 were terribly slow. It was so slow, that Apple has managed to secure the first place by beating Samsung. Although the iPhone sales had dropped during the holiday, it has still managed to secure the stronghold of the top vendor of 2017.
The overall picture shows 403.5 million units of smartphones shipped during the 2017 holiday. The number is low when compared to the 430.7 million units in 2016. Till now, Samsung held the first place securely and had shipped 74.1 million phones in the last few months of 2017, which is 4.4 percent down from the year before.
Between Apple and Samsung
On the other hand, after the release of the iPhone X, the sales haven’t been as good as the company hoped. However, Apple proved that having numerous models at various price points bodes well for bringing smartphone owners to iOS, which was a take on Samsung. Despite Apple securing the holiday top spot, Samsung was still the top smartphone vendor overall for 2017.
In 2017, Samsung shipped 317.3 million units which was an increase of 1.9 percent. On the other hand, Apple shipped 215.8 million units in 2017 and has claimed the second spot. Apple was followed by Huawei with 153.1 million units, Oppo 111.8 million units, and Xiaomi 92.4 million units.
