Juniper Networks Inc., unveiled its fifth generation of the MX series of routers. The new series is an extension of its MX Series router line. The company has extended its networking capabilities with the new MX series 5G Universal Routing Platform. The technology will enter the field in the form of line cards for MX960, MX480 and MX240 routers and also MX10008 and MX10016 Universal chassis.
The technology will help the new Juniper Penta Silicon packet forwarding engine with the help of 5G mobile focussed software. The new MX platform combines the best software and hardware-based networking to provide carrier, cloud and enterprise customers for the evolving technological and business demands.
The heart of the new MX Series 5G platform is the Juniper Penta Silicon that is a 16nm packet forwarding engine that delivers 50% power efficiency gain over the existing Junos Trio Chipset. This will result in three times increase in the bandwidth for MX960, MX480, and MX240.
The MX10008 and MX 100016 are expected to be available later this year. Juniper Penta Silicon line of cards for MX960, MX480, and MX240 will be available in the first quarter of 2019.
