5G network is here! And Minneapolis and Chicago are the lucky cities to benefit from Verizon’s launch of 5G mobile service network. Although Verizon intended to start a week later, it’s surprised us all by launching early. With the Verizon 5G network, customers can expect average download speeds of 450 Mbps and the top-most speed could be as high as 1 Gbps.
New Beginnings
If you’re from any of these two cities, note that the 5G service is still quite limited. You can expect to catch the network in important landmarks and general downtown areas. Of course, to tap into the 5G networking, you’ll need a phone that’s compatible with it. And right now, you only have the Moto Z3 and the 5F Moto Mod that are ready in the market for 5G adaption. There’s also the Samsung Galaxy S10 5G that’s expected to roll out in the next couple of months.
The launch of the actual 5G network is a remarkable achievement. Although Verizon had previously launched the 5G home network deployment in four cities last year, this launch is quite different. The home network was based on 5G TF standard and today’s deployment is the real 5G NR standard for cellular networks. Also make note, to tap into the 5G network, you’ll need to pay an additional $10 a month.
