Amazon sues more than 1000 for fake reviews

A customer’s decision to buy a product largely depends on the reviews of users who already own the product. If the reviews are more positive, the more likely the customer will buy the product. If the reviews are negative, the customer will not buy the product.

Nowadays, people are posting plenty of fake product reviews. Amazon, the world’s largest online retailer has got wind of such people and has identified and sued over a 1000 for the fake reviews. The company conducted an extensive investigation which included purchasing of fake reviews on Fiverr, a marketplace for creative and professional services. People who offered reviews often promised 5 star ratings and offered to let the purchaser write the review themselves.

The legal action says: "Amazon is bringing this action to protect its customers from this misconduct, by stopping defendants and uprooting the ecosystem in which they participate.”

The company has so far filed a lawsuit against 1,114 alleged fake reviewers, who it says are tarnishing its brand reputation with "false, misleading and inauthentic" reviews, GeekWire reports.
