Kuwait Oil Company was awarded the Innovative Technology Initiative of the Year for its Rigless ESP technology emphasizing on the improved techniques in extracting the oil.
The Asian Oil & Gas Awards 2024 Winners of Innovative Technology Initiative of the Year - Kuwait was Kuwait Oil Company (KOC). KOC is being honoured for the use of Zilift technology, Rigless Electrical Submersible Pumps (ESP) technology, a significant milestone for all oil and gas companies.
Zilift technology enables the use of Electrical Submersible Pumps by telescoping a cable deploying the ESP, through TECLine Cable thus not requiring a rig. The new technology is able to perform installations of the systems without a crane which is a novel use of the rigless technology in installation works with difficult wells.
The Well was shut-in since August 2021 due to pressure issues and failed activation attempts. In rigless ESP installation, KOC envisaged waiting time and production loss since their primary goal was to modify installation time. The project was able to install the pump ESP and take it in one or two days without killing the well, and work well for up to three months.
The success in Zilift deployment improves not only the output but also raises the bar for addressing well challenges in the oil sector. The innovative spirit of KOC lends itself to operations to provide solutions, especially where wells are hard to reach.
KOC’s chief executive officer Ahmad Jaber Al-Eidan underlined that the company will pursue the use of oil-drilling technologies that are eco-friendly in nature. And this achievement puts KOC at the forefront of the industry while paving the way for much more progress in the future.
