Jamie Dimon has also expressed his forceful views on American immigration issuing a call to introduce a merit-based system and to underline American global leadership and innovativeness.
The CEO of JPMorgan Chase, Jamie Dimon spoke on immigration policies in America at the Data + AI Summit 2025 in San Francisco with a firm statement that the US has not been doing them very well. He has stressed that America should support merit-based immigration tied to America's global indispensability in terms of economic, military, and technological issues.
According to Dimon, America was attractive because of freedom, prosperity, and innovation. He talked about his grandparents who came as Greek immigrants to become Americans. Other U.S policies such as mortgages, housing and job skills were also criticized by his remarks.
This view is against the increased debate under the Trump government as its rate of crackdown on illegal immigration has increased. The words of Dimon are in disharmony with the modern trend of policy development and they call for a more open and meritocratic system.
In the aspect of global leadership, he expressed the idea that the military power and the technology leadership of Americans are needed to maintain a free and democratic world, more so in the race to beat China.
His comments supported a larger view in that America had to be a leader in terms of innovation and values.
