French, British forces march together

French troops and British troops marched together at the Changing of the Guard event outside Buckingham Palace, demonstrating unity amid Ukraine conflict.

For the first time on Monday, French troops marched with their British counterparts at the renowned Changing of the Guard event outside Buckingham Palace, showing unity between the two countries in the midst of the conflict in Ukraine. In a separate ceremony held in Paris, the French army choir performed the two national anthems, "La Marseillaise" and "God Save the King," as British soldiers with towering bearskin hats participated in an unprecedented combined military march in front of the presidential palace.

The two occasions marked the 120th anniversary of the Entente Cordiale, the diplomatic pact signed in 1904 between France and Britain that opened the door for their cooperation in both World Wars I and II. French President Emmanuel Macron stated in a video message shared on social media on Monday that the alliance is the cornerstone for strengthening Anglo-French ties, especially now that the war is returning.

In a joint opinion article that appeared in the Daily Telegraph on Monday, French Foreign Secretary Stéphane Séjourné and British Foreign Secretary David Cameron urged friends to increase aid for Ukraine. Prince Edward and his wife Sophie attended a parade in London, featuring 40 Scots Guardsmen and 32 Gendarmerie members, while King Charles III, currently undergoing cancer treatment, he was represented by Edward and Sophie at Buckingham Palace.
