The former executive of Apple and Uber, Vineet Khosla, was appointed as the new CTO of The Washington Post.
Vineet Khosla was appointed chief technology officer today, according to a Washington Post report. Vineet is set to guide The Post's engineering team and innovation strategy in this executive leadership position, acting as a senior advisor to the CEO and advancing the organization's overall technology vision. He will move from Silicon Valley to the nation's capital on July 31st to start working for The Post.
Khosla mentioned that he has been a longtime admirer of the Washington Post as a reader and a digital subscriber. He added that he joins a company that is already technologically advanced. He said that The Post's storytelling and innovative use of graphics have always impressed him. Khosla observed that The Post's reporters and engineers appear to have a solid working relationship, which he hopes to build upon. He added that access to The Post's owner, Jeff Bezos, was another factor that attracted him to the position.
In May, Fred Ryan, who was The Post's publisher and CEO at the time, wrote an article in which he enthusiastically discussed the newspaper's investment in generative AI. Khosla is thrilled to make a significant contribution to the use of generative AI by creating two cross-functional teams, the AI Taskforce and the AI Hub.
Khosla has worked in the technology sector for almost 20 years, most recently leading Uber's maps routing team. He was the first engineer hired by Apple to work on the natural language engine for Siri before that.
