This week, a sizable American corporate group is in Vietnam, consisting of GE Vernova, Boeing, and Meta.
After Washington improved ties with the country of Southeast Asia last year, the firms are watching for evidence of sustained corporate interest in the region. According to the US-ASEAN Business Council, which organized the event and sent a business delegation comparable in size to Vietnam last year, about 50 businesses will take part.
Participating companies include conglomerate Koch Industries, energy company AES, gaming company Roblox, insurance group Chubb, safety standards company UL Solutions, and weather forecasting provider ATMO.
Many of these businesses have operations in Vietnam already.
The nation is one of Meta's biggest markets worldwide, with over 60 million users on Facebook.
In order to sell 50 of its 737 aircraft, Boeing and national carrier Vietnam Airlines inked a preliminary agreement last year.
U.S. President Joe Biden advocated for better relations with Vietnam and increased collaboration in the semiconductor sector last year. The corporate delegation this week is not anticipated to include any semiconductor businesses, though, according to the organizers.
Meetings between the business mission and municipal officials are scheduled for Tuesday through Thursday. According to the organizers, a smaller group of security companies will speak with officials from Vietnam's ministries of defense and police on Monday to explore potential business prospects.
