Quarkus Java stack by Red Hat provides rapid, lightweight cloud-native development among other things, with support for reactive programming, Kubernetes and native compiling.
Red Hat has announced that its agile, minimalistic, open-source Java stack Quarkus will come out of beta and become a full-fledged production release by the end of November. Under the Red Hat sponsorship, Quarkus is created as Kubernetes-native stack for cloud-native and serverless apps with both reactive and imperative programming paradigm supported.
Quarkus promises to start up faster and use up significantly less memory compared to traditional Java micro services frameworks At its essence, it relies on Vert.x, a toolkit for developing reactive JVM applications, and has an exclusive feature of instantly reflecting the changes in code in running applications.
Quarkus 1.0 release of Red Hat brings such major features as APIs for cloud-native apps, integration with Apache Kafka, Eclipse MicroProfile, Hibernate, and RESTEasy, as well as tools for monitoring like MicroProfile Metrics and open tracing. Java framework extensions for native binary compilation and reactive security layer integrated with Vert.x is also provided.
The improvements that are going to be made by Red Hat in the future are enhanced Spring API compatibility and enhanced Observability; support for long-running transactions and native compilation for Java 11.
Some of the popular IDEs through which developers interested in using Quarkus can work include Eclipse and Visual Studio Code. So, the stack can be obtained under the Apache Software License 2.0 which makes it possible for both enterprise and non-enterprise use.
The investment of Red Hat in Quarkus shows that the organization is committed to moving forward in constructing cloud-native Java development using efficient, scalable tools that are aimed at the modern structures.
