Egypt energy transition

In a bold move towards sustainability, Egypt is investing heavily in renewable energy and modernizing its power grid to ensure reliable, clean energy for the future.

Egypt is making significant strides in its energy transition, with the government prioritizing renewable energy expansion and grid modernization to meet growing demand. Mahmoud Esmat, the Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy, emphasized that providing high-quality, stable electricity while boosting clean energy is central to Egypt's energy strategy. This includes improving grid efficiency, reducing fuel consumption, and expanding renewable energy projects.

Esmat made these remarks during the General Assembly of the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company (EETC), where the company’s performance and financials for the 2023/2024 fiscal year were reviewed. Alongside Dr. Rania Al-Mashat, Minister of Planning and Economic Development, Esmat highlighted key initiatives such as transitioning Egypt’s electricity grid from traditional to smart technology. This modernization aims to handle larger capacities from renewable sources, ensuring energy is transmitted with minimal losses and resources are optimized.

Esmat also underscored the importance of supporting projects like agricultural land reclamation, where the electricity sector plays a vital role in improving the infrastructure to global standards.

The EETC, under the leadership of Mona Rizq, invested approximately EGP 7.6 billion during the fiscal year to renew and expand high and ultra-high voltage stations and integrate renewable energy into the grid. This investment will help strengthen Egypt’s electricity network, marking a significant step towards the country’s sustainable energy future.
