A new initiative has been introduced by a grocery major to support employee leadership and career growth.
Morrisons, a well-known supermarket chain, announced the opening of the Sir Ken Morrison Leadership School with the objective of providing its employees with the necessary tools for career advancement. Dedicated to honoring Sir Ken's innovative and excellence-driven heritage, the program bears his name. Sir Ken was once the acclaimed chairman of the store.
The effort, led by CEO Rami Baitiéh, consists of technical training and extensive leadership development tailored to improve participants' skills. Participants will receive advice and insights from company mentors, such as current Morrisons chair Sir Terry Leahy, according to Retail Week.
The leadership school program's participants will go through intense training, which will end with an exam and a real-world business project that will allow them to put their newly acquired abilities to use. Morrisons is showcasing its dedication to developing internal talent by aiming to place program graduates into higher roles faster than six months.
In a recent investor call, Baitiéh showed her excitement for the program and emphasized its strategic significance in getting Morrisons ready for next possibilities and challenges. He stated, "Our leadership school, an important investment in our future, is now underway, and we have selected our first cohort."
To accommodate a diverse group of aspirant leaders inside the organization, the school will run in cohorts of about 70 individuals, three times a year.Terry Leahy, a well-known personality in the retail sector, served as a mentor. He compared the experience to having a top-notch sports coach.
