As Covid cases increase Quebec has decided to shut down retail stores
Quebec has decided to close non-retail stores, it has proceeded with three already. This move is made to curb the new wave of Covid-19, the infectious Omicron variant. Hospitals and care systems have extended their time as the variant has become widespread.
Quebec Premier Francois Legault made a public announcement in the previous week about the shutdown of province’s for the coming three Sundays and the exceptions will apply for pharmacies, convenience stores and gas stations.
"The last thing businesses need during these difficult times is additional restrictions”, said Milliard. “We must leave the choice to businesses to open or close at the time that makes more sense for them, their customers, and their employees.”
Martin Beaumont, President and CEO of the CHU de Quebec-Universite Laval mentioned in a news conference that there is a possibility of 10,000 medical appointments being delayed, with 50 nurses on the go.
As of now there are travel bans in Nunavik, northern Quebec till mid-January with only critical or essential travel allowed into or out of the region’s 14 villages.
