The retail giant Walmart has found a new CTO. Suresh Kumar, who until recently worked at Google as the VP and general manager of display, video, app ads, and analytics, has been chosen for the role. In addition to this, he will also take on the role of chief development officer for Walmart.
Earlier in March, Jeremy King had left the position of CTO to take up the role of Pinterest’s head of engineering. Walmart had been on the lookout for a new CTO since then.
As the new CTO and CDO, he will be reporting directly to Walmart’s CEO Doug McMillon. Commenting on the appointment of Kumar as the new CTO he said: “Suresh has a unique understanding of the intersection of technology and retail, including supply chain, and has deep experience in advertising, cloud and machine learning. And, he has a track record of working in partnership with business teams to drive results.”
Suresh Kumar has had a splendid career where he has had the privilege to work with the biggest names such as Google, Microsoft, Amazon, and IBM. His 25 years in technology leadership is bound to do great things for Walmart as it continues its transformation.
