The world’s largest retailer is apparently planning on launching its own tablet that may rival the iPad. The tablet reportedly in works will be inexpensive and even kid-friendly!
According to reports, the tablet will be under Walmart’s ONN store brand and will be “part of a broader redesign of its electronic department.” Some photos accessed by the media company from the database of wireless product applications filed with the U.S. Federal Communications Commission have revealed that the tablet will run on Google’s Android OS. The device will be made by a Chinese supplier.
A Walmart spokeswoman has confirmed that the product is in works. But the price of the device or dates of a release have not been disclosed as yet. The tablet will be a breath of fresh year in a market that has seen a decline in recent times. The data tracker Strategy Analytics has revealed that tablet shipments have fallen 6.2% in the last year during which Apple has been the largest tablet seller followed by Amazon.
There have been signs that have indicated that Walmart will make a big push for the electronics market this year considering the opportunities in the market and launching this tablet will give them a good start. If their offerings are priced right, they might even capture the imagination of the consumers and give their rivals (Amazon and Apple) a run for their money in the consumer electronics segment too.
