GXO and Apptronik Join Forces to Revolutionize Warehouse Operations with AI-Enabled Humanoids
GXO, one of the world's leading logistics firms, is embarking on an innovative journey to automate its warehouse operations through a groundbreaking partnership with robotics developer Apptronik. Together, they are testing humanoid robots, named Apollo, to streamline tasks such as item picking in GXO's vast network of over 970 facilities.
With facilities spanning some 200 million square feet, GXO is poised to enhance its operations using what it describes as “AI-enabled warehouse buddies.” The partnership will see Apollo humanoid robots navigating warehouse floors, carrying boxes, and interacting with human coworkers to evaluate their effectiveness in distribution centers.
Apptronik’s Apollo robots, standing at 5 feet, 8 inches, are equipped with advanced linear actuators that mimic human muscle movements, providing them with a full range of mobility. These robots can carry up to 55 pounds and are powered by specially configured batteries designed for optimal performance in industrial settings.
The collaboration aims to fine-tune the AI models powering Apollo robots before their eventual deployment in one of GXO’s U.S. distribution centers. By integrating these humanoid robots, GXO hopes to reduce repetitive tasks and improve workplace safety, allowing human workers to focus on more complex and value-added activities.
This partnership between GXO and Apptronik represents a significant step towards a future where advanced robotics seamlessly integrate into warehouse operations, enhancing efficiency and creating safer, more engaging workplaces. As GXO continues to innovate, the deployment of AI-enabled humanoid robots like Apollo could set a new standard for the logistics industry.
