China launches open source initiative for 'Tiangong,' a humanoid robot that can run and navigate various terrains to promote the integration of robotics into people's daily life.
The Embodied Artificial Intelligence Robotics Innovation Center, which is founded in China, has made an open-source announcement about the release of a new anthropomorphic robot called "Tiangong," which claims to be fully electric and is the first bipedal running robot with a composite body structure.
Tiangong is a revolution in designs of robots as it assists with the development of humanoid robots and helps to quicken the assimilation of these robots into everyday practices. The initiative aims to increase the pace of the robotics enhancement ever more and open the advanced systems for the improvements by the specialists all over the world.
The China-made “Tiangong” is able to run at an average speed of 10 km/h, with a maximum speed of 12 km/h. It can also traverse various surfaces including inclined surfaces, steps and extreme terrain such as gravel and sand. This mobility is indeed a significant breakthrough in robotics as it opens a whole new avenue of use for the robot.
Apart from Tiangong, incubation center is also enhancing other robotics platforms like a collaborative intelligent cerebellum platform, and multi-use ‘Kaiwu’ robot. The center intends to create a substantial open source community of humanoid robotics across continents by partnering with universities, research institutions, and robotics companies.
Therefore, this is a project that has every potential to push the boundaries of robotics and brings us closer to the time when we will not only have humanoid robots but many more types of robots in our daily lives.
