Google is rolling out three new theft protection features for Android: Offline device lock, Remote Lock, Theft detection lock to improve user data security from theft.
Android gets new security features, designed to protect user data if the device is stolen, which Google is rolling out soon. These three features are, Theft Detection Lock, Offline Device Lock, and Remote Lock, which come together to keep Android users safe if their devices are stolen.
First announced earlier this year, Google’s Theft Detection Lock uses the company’s AI algorithms to help it tell if a phone is being snatched from a user’s hands. The device automatically locks the screen if it senses motion which matches with theft, keeping the user’s data away from the hands of unauthorized user.
Offline Device Lock is another feature, which activates when a thief tries to disconnect the device for a long time. Google says the system may also notice signs of theft such as too many failed authentication attempts locking the screen in lock.
The third one is Remote Lock which helps users lock their Android phones remotely by their phone numbers. Users can quickly lock their phones after quick security verification by switching devices and hoping to retrieve the phone lock screen to change phone settings or wipe the entire device by performing a factory reset.
These features are now available for certain devices, including the Xiaomi 14T Pro, as well as several Google Pixel smartphones. These enhancements are going to be rolled out to all Android users in coming days so that Google’s mobile platform would have made significant strides towards enhancing security.
