The US-based Corning Incorporated has opened a research and development center in Montreal, Canada. The center will be focusing on innovation in software solutions for the telecom industry.
Called The Corning Technology Center, it will be the company’s global center of software innovation. The center will support technologies in focus such as artificial intelligence, AR, cloud computing and data analytics. The tech center will also leverage software solutions for optical wireless networks.
Anchored by the Sullivan Park Innovation Center in Corning, New York, The Montreal Center will join the network of Corning’s R&D laboratories present throughout the continent of North America. Corning will be onboarding software engineers, development team managers, and data analysts for the Montreal center over the next five years.
Claudio Mazzali, Senior Vice President for Corning’s Optical Communications business segment said: “The work that will take place here in our Montreal technology center will extend Corning’s innovation capabilities beyond optical transport and connectivity, all the way to the intelligence required to deploy and enable those applications. Montreal is emerging as a major center of software innovation, and Corning is glad to be part of it.”
The company will focus on software solutions for telecommunications networks initially but intends to expand across all of Corning’s business segments.
