Fuchsia OS in works as Google opens it for public contributors

When Google announced its ambitious project "Fuchsia OS" four years back, there was a lot of buzz around the same. Now Google has made the project open to public contributors, meaning it is soon going to launch. The Fuchsia OS is aimed to unify Android and Chrome OS and not just to replace widely popular Android.

Like Android, Google wants Fuchsia to be open-source for external contributors to enter. Any developer will be able to read the documentation and scan the problem tracker, sign up for a mailing list, work on supported devices, or configure an emulator and stay up-to-date on the project roadmap. It has support for a limited set of x64-based hardware, and you can also test it with Fuchsia's emulator. The developers can download the Fuchsia source code from its official website and the tools and the emulator to make it work locally.

"We have been developing Fuchsia in the open, in our git repository for the last four years. As an open-source effort, we welcome high-quality, well-tested contributions from all. There is now a process to become a member to submit patches or a committer with full write access," Google informed in a statement.

Google has already revealed the roadmap of the Fuchsia OS. The highlights include a driver framework for updating the drivers' kernel independently, improving file systems for performance, and expanding the input pipeline for accessibility. According to Google, Fuchsia will be able to run on any device, with common software development and only one app store.
