Sony and Discord have recently made an announcement that PlayStation will now have an integrated discord app for gaming-focused chat. The latest move came as a surprise to many as there were acquisition talks in the air about Discord being taken over by Microsoft. However, it looks like Sony made a better deal with Discord and has taken the edge. As of now, the exact nature of the partnership was not revealed, but the closest information we have is that Discord and Sony want to come together and provide a better experience to the console and mobile users by next year.
Previously, Discord had also partnered with many console platforms, but it was nowhere close to deep integration. The latest option in PS5 will be more than just talk to your friends; it is expected to have a separate Discord branded option to invite and talk to friends. The new timeline for the release is early 2022, and this is expected to be a major product change for both brands. The latest PlayStation is undoubtedly way better than the old one, but the voice chat option was not great. The latest partnership will drastically improve the voice chat option in PS5 and elevate the user experience.
