WhatsApp has been facing a lot of criticism worldwide due to its privacy policies. Amid the chaos, people are actively leaving WhatsApp for more secure services like Telegram and Signal. Recently, Telegram announced its milestone of reaching 500 million active users due to the people's sentiment going against WhatsApp. Even Signal, which is very new, saw a significant rise in downloads and rose up to tending in the app store charts.
Now to leverage the trend further, Telegram is working on a tool that will allow the users to migrate their chats from other apps like WhatsApp to telegram. This will allow an even swifter flow of people to leave other chat services and use Telegram.According to a recent report, Telegram v7.4 is now rolling out to selected iOS users via the Apple App Store. The update brings a new import feature that will allow users to migrate their chat history from other apps, including WhatsApp, Line, and KakaoTalk, to Telegram. The migration tool is on phased rollout for iOS, while there is no update regarding the Android users.
To migrate your chat history from WhatsApp to Telegram, you will first have to open Whatsapp and select the option of "export chat," which will create a zip file of your chats. Then you can import it in Telegram through the iOS share sheet if you have the latest version of the app installed. After this, Telegram will ask you about which contact or group you want to associate that chat with, and then the messages will be synced for both you and your contact.
