Celebrating a Lunar Triumph with a Day Dedicated to Space Achievements and Future Aspirations
India is set to commemorate a groundbreaking milestone in its space exploration journey with the inaugural National Space Day on August 23. This special day honors the historic achievement of August 23, 2023, when India became the fourth nation to land on the moon and the first to reach the moon’s southern polar region.
To mark this momentous occasion, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has officially declared August 23 as "National Space Day." The theme for this year’s celebration is “Touching Lives while Touching the Moon: India’s Space Saga,” reflecting the profound impact of India’s space endeavors on the country and beyond.
In the lead-up to National Space Day, a series of events will highlight India’s extraordinary space achievements, showcasing the advancements in space technology and the benefits these bring to society. These events will also offer a unique opportunity for people from all walks of life to engage with and learn more about India’s space program.
The celebrations will reach their peak with a major event in New Delhi on August 22-23. M Sankaran, a distinguished scientist from the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and Director of the U R Rao Satellite Centre in Bengaluru, shared his insights with Akashvani News about the significance of National Space Day. He emphasized how the day not only celebrates India’s past successes but also inspires future generations to explore and innovate in space science.
India's first National Space Day serves as a tribute to the nation's remarkable achievements in space exploration and a beacon of inspiration for the future of space technology.
