From Moon landings to climate monitoring, NASA’s advancements benefit humanity and inspire the future.
NASA is celebrating a transformative year marked by groundbreaking accomplishments that pushed the boundaries of space exploration and Earth science. In 2024, the agency landed new science and technology on the Moon with an American company, launched a mission to study Jupiter’s icy moon Europa, and continued its 24-year legacy of continuous human presence on the International Space Station.
NASA also unveiled its supersonic quiet aircraft prototype, brought the wonder of a total solar eclipse to millions, completed the final flight of the Ingenuity helicopter on Mars, and introduced laser communications in deep space. The agency further expanded its capabilities with the next-generation solar sail, unveiled discoveries with the James Webb Space Telescope, and announced the newest class of Artemis astronauts.
“2024 was a year of incredible progress and inspiration,” said NASA Administrator Bill Nelson. “We made giant leaps in exploring the Moon, Mars, and beyond, while delivering tangible benefits to humanity. Our partnerships, innovative missions, and Earth-monitoring technologies are shaping a better future for all.”
Under its Moon to Mars initiative, NASA advanced the Artemis program, preparing for its first crewed lunar mission in over 50 years. Meanwhile, 15 nations joined the Artemis Accords, committing to responsible space exploration.
The agency also prioritized climate change by launching satellites to monitor Earth and opening its second Earth Information Center to make data accessible globally. With a $75.6 billion economic impact, NASA continues to drive innovation, benefit the economy, and solidify American leadership in space and science.
