The mile Highs and Lows of Flashy Hype Meets Reality: The Colorado Avalanche’s Battle for a Win

While Colorado had won their last game against Colorado State in a relatively more comprehensive manner, their latest game against North Dakota State was one that offered more fanciness than actual value. The game, which was aired with all the enthusiasm expected from Coach Deion Sanders, was even tightly won 31-26 by the Buffaloes but was hardly a shocking or overwhelming performance.

These comments express the disappointment of Colorado supporters, who expected Sanders, the revolutionary college football star, to bring change to the dysfunctional Colorado program. Although the team is marketed as a contender for the titles of both the Pac-12 and the Big 12, the team appears to be in the making and incohesive. Colorado has used over 120 scholarship players since the beginning of the 2023 season, and the lack of consistency in the program was evident.

North Dakota State, an FCS team with a lot of experience and a pretty strong team, almost upset the Buffs and dominated them most of the time. Colorado, which replaced 42 of 45 scholarship players in the offseason coming into the game, looked lost and fragile.

The icing on the cake for Colorado was undoubtedly the show-stealing turn of star quarterback Shedeur Sanders and maverick player Travis Hunter. For a highly talented NFL draft prospect in Sanders, it was a reminder of his team that needs to come together, that even his days of impressive play and composure cannot cover up.

Even though the victory is significant, questions relating to the longevity of the Prime Experiment are pertinent and the difficulty of assembling a winning college football team even when all the circumstances are in place is evident.
