No. 10 Florida State Falls to 0-2 After Stunning Loss to Boston College

Florida State football, Boston College vs Florida State, Bill O'Brien Boston College

Seminoles’ season loosens with 28-13 defeat; Boston College dominates in both offense and defense.

Football in Florida State has started badly for the 2024 season; after losing 28–13 at home to Boston College, the No. 10 Seminoles are now 0–2. With DJ Uiagalelei at quarterback, the Seminoles' offense failed once again, while the Eagles took advantage of Florida State's defensive shortcomings and ran for 268 yards.

Boston College led 14-6 at the half and increased that lead to 16 points in the third quarter after Max Tucker intercepted a ball from Uiagalelei and scored a short touchdown. With a 29-yard touchdown pass to Kentron Poitier, Florida State cut the lead in half, but they were unable to maintain the lead. The Seminoles' defense was unable to stop Boston College's run attack, and their performance was further hampered by a string of errors that included penalties and missed opportunities.

With this loss, a top-10 preseason squad has started 0-2 for the fourth time in the last ten years, both times in conference play. The route to the ACC championship game and the postseason will suddenly be difficult for the Seminoles.

However, Boston College had excellent line play and tactical execution under the direction of new head coach Bill O'Brien. The previously underestimated O'Brien club is ready to take on opponents with higher rankings in the upcoming weeks.
