HPE introduces on-premises, cost-effective storage array, expanding accessibility to high-performance computing capabilities for enterprises.
Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) has unveiled a groundbreaking addition to its portfolio, catering to the burgeoning demand for high-performance computing solutions within enterprise settings. The newly launched HPE Cray Storage Systems C500 promises to revolutionize data center operations by delivering supercomputer-grade storage capabilities at a more accessible price point.
Designed to cater to a diverse range of enterprise applications, including modeling, artificial intelligence (AI), and machine learning (ML) use cases, the C500 represents a significant milestone in HPE's mission to democratize access to cutting-edge computing technologies. Equipped with the same robust software found in the renowned Cray ClusterStor E1000, the C500 leverages the embedded open-source Lustre parallel file system to facilitate high-performance access to vast datasets.
One of the key highlights of the C500 is its ability to address the evolving needs of enterprises seeking to harness the power of AI and ML within their on-premises environments. Peter Rutten, an analyst at IDC, underscores the importance of this development, noting that while large language models (LLMs) are often trained in the public cloud, there exists a growing demand for on-premises solutions to support smaller language models.
Scheduled for shipping starting May 27, the HPE Cray Storage Systems C500 will be available through HPE GreenLake Management Services, offering remote infrastructure management and monitoring capabilities. Additionally, enterprises can opt for GreenLake Flex Solutions, which provide flexible as-a-service models tailored to on-premises environments, providing organizations with greater flexibility in deploying and managing their storage infrastructure.
