Reliance Industries to launch solar PV and battery storage production facilities by 2024, to enhance green energy capabilities.
Mukesh Ambani's worldwide firm Reliance Industries, based in India, plans to build new solar and battery storage facilities as part of a major expansion of its green energy portfolio. Reliance said at the 47th Annual General Meeting (AGM) on August 29, 2024, that it will begin producing solar photovoltaic (PV) modules by the end of this year and begin producing battery storage units by the middle of 2025.
Reliance’s green energy push is centered around its $7.2 billion manufacturing complex in Jamnagar, Gujarat. The site will eventually house solar PV, battery cells, storage systems, electrolysers, and other critical components. The initial phase will see the production of heterojunction (HJT) solar modules with a cell efficiency of over 26%. The facility, integrated with technology from REC Silicon, is set to scale up with additional components like cells, glass, and polysilicon in the following quarters.
With a 30GWh yearly production capacity, the huge battery factory is expected to start operations in the second half of 2025. The plant will eventually shift to producing cells and battery chemicals after initially concentrating on utility-scale battery energy storage systems (BESS) and battery packs for different markets. This approach aims to create a fully integrated battery production facility, driving efficiencies across the value chain.
In order to fulfill its primary goal of assisting India's transformation into a preeminent center for green energy, Reliance has made measured investments and integrated technology in the solar and battery industries. To strengthen its position in the renewable energy sector, the corporation has expanded its efforts to include large investments in worldwide battery technology firms.
