The telecom giant has announced that it will be offering users a 5G experience in 12 selected cities in the U.S. This makes it the very first telecom company to offer 5G on the U.S soil.
The company had earlier said that AT&T’s 5G network will go live by the end of 2018 and now it is delivering on its promise. The initial offering from the telecom is for Atlanta, Dallas, Houston, Oklahoma City, Jacksonville, Louisville, Indianapolis, Charlotte, San Antonio, Raleigh, New Orleans, and Waco. Although the network will cover only parts of these cities, the reach is bound to get better soon as the 5G ecosystem improves.
The next seven cities to get AT&T’s 5G network will be Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Nashville, San Diego, San Francisco, San Jose, and Orlando. For now, the initial offer will be extended to select businesses and consumers through their 5G device plus 5G data usage at no cost for at least 90 days. For now, the customers who will be able to avail the network will be able to do it through the Netgear Nighthawk 5G Mobile Hotspot.
Commenting on the offering, Andre Fuetsch, President of AT&T Labs and CTO said: “Being first, you can expect us to evolve very quickly. It’s early on the 5G journey and we’re ready to learn fast and continually iterate in the months ahead.”
